In a recent interview with the New York Daily News, rising star Michael B. Jordan discussed his role as Johnny Storm, aka Human Torch, in The Fantastic Four movie, suiting up for the first time, among other things. About the negative response to him playing the originally-white character, the Chronicle actor doesn't think about it. "Can't make everybody happy," he said. "I don't think anything about it." What he does think about, on the other hand, is how major it is to be a part of the rebooted Fox/Marvel franchise. "I loved comic books; Japanese animation, cartoons," he said. "So to be able to play a character that I always fantasized about and always wanted to be -- to have powers and stuff like that -- and to be a part of Marvel's family, it's a huge deal for me. I geek out about it." About suiting as the Human Torch for the first time, Jordan admits, "I was like, 'This is a lot tighter than I expected.'" On his preparation for the role, Michael B. Jordan says, "I've known about this character and playing this role for almost two and a half years now. So when I get all these new questions about how I'm feeling about it, I'm like, 'You know, I'm feeling pretty good about it.'" He then went on to discuss Johnny Storm's race-change. "It's something that we kind of willed to happen, which was really important to me and Josh [Trank]," he said of The Fantastic Four director. "We're lucky we had a studio behind us that really supported our ambition and our want for change. Now we have something really epic."
Beyond The Fantastic Four, Michael B. Jordan says he would someday like to play a character that would test his creative skills, and that he idolizes the late Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight. "I've always been attracted to characters that are very complicated or complex," he said. "I think Heath Ledger did such a great job with The Joker and the way he performed it. How it was so crazy and psychotic, but you kind of understood it. I want to step in those shoes and play a role like that." Head to the New York Daily News for the full interview.

Why is that? The actors aren't in the same league as the First Class guys from what I've seen of them. Director doesn't have much of a track record.I’m getting a First Class vibe with this movie

Same thing happened with First Class, in fact, they were doing re-shoots about 4 months before the film was set to release, and I don’t think we saw a trailer until 2 months before it came out.Im getting a "just make a movie to retain rights" kind of vibe.
Movie is finished with principal photography yet there has been little shown of it, no trailer and some set shots. Release date pushed back to make room for Deadpool and all that.
Just seems Fox isn't that rushed to put this out there, don't know if thats good or bad
Oh NOW it's epic because Johnny Storm is black. Okay.
I’m getting a First Class vibe with this movie, it’s going to be a good movie but it won’t bring in the mega dollars every other superhero film is bringing in these days.
"Beyond The Fantastic Four, Michael B. Jordan says he would someday like to play a character that would test his creative skills" So basically he's just phoning in this character and it isn't complex enough to warrant any of his creative skills. Well that sounds promising.
Fassbender had a great performance as Bobby Sands, and of course in Inglourious Basterds before First Class. I at least knew he was going to be good. Mara isn't great from what I've seen in House of Cards, Jordan seems average, the guy playing Reed I know nothing of, guy doing Thing is CG'd, I thought the guy playing Doom was lame in The Escape Artist. Going into First Class Vaughn had done Layer Cake, Stardust, and Kickass, so we knew he had a solid track record. Writer here is all over the place of course. I appreciate your being optimistic, but based on the facts I can't share it. I wouldn't say I'm being very pessimistic either, but I feel we've got a lot less to base expectations on than we did with First Class. This one could really go either way for me, though the found footage aspect* and Doom looking like Ragman are issues they are going to have to overcome. At the time FC was in production most of the cast were pretty much at the same point in their careers as the FF cast. Mcavoy at that time really was the only actor with a decent resume other than Kevin Bacon.
I don’t know much about Kate Mara, but the rest of the main cast are talented actors. Trank might have only directed one film, but at least that was a good film in the same genre as the FF, this isn’t like Sony hiring Marc Webb based on the solid romantic comedy he made, and his last name.
Kinberg is coming off of writing quite possibly the best Marvel film to date (yes, I know he wrote X3).
I really don’t see much to complain about with this film so far. If people are upset because they’re going the ultimate route then I guess I can understand that, but based on everything we know so far, I can’t really see why this movie is expected to be crap by everyone.

*at least big fans of Winter Soldier shouldn't find fault with this part of it, as they usually embrace erratic shakycam
The problem is it's a movie singular, so there is no trend yet. Always possible one film is an exception, one way or the other. That Teller doesn't strike me as nearly the actor Fassbender does (in fact, I found his mannerisms extremely annoying as I got through that show), but he could prove me wrong in the future. We'll see.I haven't seen it but Trank got as much acclaim for his previous movie as Vaughn did for his
I was hoping for a male Sue Storm.
