I would like to go organic too but shopping at places like Whole Foods is very expensive. Your child is very lucky Bodie, seriously I am jealous.:lol

Easier said than done. There are millions of obese people in America with proof that "just make the time" doesn't always happen.

Plus, going to the supermarket and buying healthy stuff priced at a premium when the unhealthy stuff is so prominently displayed and on sale is pretty hard.

I hear excuses in your post. Living correctly isn't always easy. I hate going to the gym 5 or 6 times a week but I do it and I make the time. It's all about what is really important to you. Is your child's health more important then watching tv or maybe drinking--- you have to make that call.

Most people only work 40 hours a week. I think you can find some time out side of work to improve your families future....

I guess I'm lucky that my wife and I are able to spend alot of time w/ our kid and we can afford to feed him right. I understand doing the right thing isn't always possible, you just have to try and do the right thing more often than not I guess.

I don't want to be rude either but I am not buying it. You have to just make the time. Even if you give your child a sandwich, which takes seconds or minutes to make, it is much better and faster than driving through the drive thru and serving your child a burger and fries and soda. Never feed your kids soda- no one should drink that stuff.

First of all, I just want to say I totally agree with your ideals. I just think until you are a parent, it is hard for you to know what it is like. I have a 16 month old who is a very picky eater. My concern is that sometimes she isn't getting enough caloric intake. I would rather have her eat junk food once in a while than nothing at all.

Also, these healthy alternatives at fast food restaurants are a good idea, because when there isn't time to fix a healthy meal, at least the kids don't have to eat junk.

No excuses for myself, as I'm fairly healthy, and have no kids to be concerned about. I'm just stating the facts that whether its their own fault or not, many Americans are extremely unhealthy eaters who don't have the drive to be fit as you may.

Now sure, it might be their own fault, but even if it is, their bad health has a negative impact on us all via the overuse of the healthcare system and so on.

So not addressing the issue from a broader, cultural aspect isn't helping anymore than excuses from individual aspects.

When most people have to make up excuses for something, I think it indicates a systemic problem rather than 145 million individual problems.

This is exactly why we need to instill good habits in our kids.

Unfortunately the advertising for fast food places is so ubiquitious that it's unavoidable, especially for young children. So they beg their parents to take them. Now the parents have a semi-healthy alternative when forced to go to MickieDs or the BK lounge. And being force fed yogurt and apple fries may even cure the kid of ever wanting to go back.

My own kids? I'll definately try as much as I can, unfortunately, everyone else's is a bit hard. Thats why I think its a great idea any time you can get corporations or influential groups to change for the better.

I know- my ideas and ideals are not very ummmm how should I say this, well they really just don't count because it's true I am not a parent. I totally agree that life is different when you walk in different shoes.

I just wish it could be simple. This is definitely a cultural problem unfortunately.

I saw that comercial for BK... Didn't even notice the "Aplle" fries (thought they were regular)... I was in shock after seeing that horrifiying son of the King!!!!

:lol Yeah, that commercial is pretty creepy.

I know that unhealthy items can sometimes be unavoidable, but the trick is to start at a young age and don't buy junk at all... takes the temptation away. I don't buy soda or sweet snacks anymore for just that reason. I'm weening myself off of it. Every month or so I might crack and get some ice cream or eat at a fast food joint, but most of the time I am trying my best to eat as healthy as possible.

Fast food is sometimes unavoidable with kids, they eat it at a friends house and ask to stop at McD's while on a road trip... so it's hard to avoid. But, at least you can make concessions with the kids and even out the bad with just a little good. Better than nothing, I say.

I just don't want my kids to be addicted to sweets and fatty foods like I was, and I will not do as my parents did and cave to the addicted child just to shut him/her up.

That is weird, apple instead of fries and no burger. I was 12 before i had anything from Mcd or BK and that was for a birthday, never even knew who they were.

I guess its diffirent here than across the pond but McD as a kid was something you do for birthdays and i would have been big time dissapointed if i got apple and maccroni instead of a burger and fries.
