The Dark Knight, and nothing to do with hype. It could have made 20 million only and been hated by everyone I talked to and it still would be the one for me. The story, the events, the whole thing just really resonated with me and stuck with me more than any other movie. Number 2 would be RAMBO and 3 Hulk.

Both TDK and Rambo had great emotion and emotion is what I appreciate most in any film. Great pics Sean.

yup , thats what did it for me. :D
Movies now a days with all the special effects and stuff concentrate on the action and fight scenes way to much ( avp an avp-r :banghead:banghead ) when what really makes a good movie is a great story and emotion.

God , I sound old. :eek::rotfl

Well said man...

Iron Man was a great flick to just watch, but I felt very little attachment for the characters. Batman Begins got me hooked on Nolan and Bale's portrayal of Bruce Wayne and I just find myself very invested in the life of him in each film and wanting to see how it turns out for him. Same with Rambo, I've followed the sort of tragic life he's had over these films and even though he's the good guy that always wins the battle, his own inner battle seems to always go on and on and I find myself always hoping for him to find peace, I actually got bummed seeing Co die the first time I saw FB Part 2, it finally seemed like he could have a life again and bam, nope.

Hulk this year was the same for me, having a Banner much like the 70s TV show. I find myself feeling for Bruce's struggles and hoping he finds a cure.

Tony Stark's an entertaining playboy, but his life isn't tragic and his motives just don't have any substance where you're emotionally pulled into seeing where they lead.

The cool part about the Rambo saga is how he'd adapted himself into his present day form in part IV. Its very realistic and as usual emotional, Rambo had become utterly bitter but even more so in part IV, he'd almost become zombieish in that he just existed without any significant purpose. Just when you think he has no reaction to anything you find out that he is still in fact what he was years before Vietnam. Human and heroic.

TDK imo is a sequel that gave about 200-300 % more than I expected, Nolan was up against the curse of "most" sequels and delivered with a vengeance. There is NOTHING I can find weak about this film, nothing. I've watched it I think 12 times since its DVD/BR release and still find it grabbing.

Hulk was awesome, Norton was as good as he'd always been but I never found the "emotional" connection, not like the other 2. Iron Man had its moments but imo was one of the best of 2008.

I'm glad others enjoyed the Rambo flick. It really surprised me. I was grinning from ear to ear in the movie house.

Rambo was a pleasant surprise. It got away from the superhero aspects of 2 and 3 and went back to basics with just the raw character.

Stallone flat out admitted that his ego and stuff lead to that aspect of the sequels to Rocky and Rambo and worked hard to make the recent additions more in line with the origins.

Personally I thought No Country and There Will be Blood were overrated last year. This year right now we have Slumdog Millionaire and Frost/Nixon, both of which are "important" as well as very entertaining. I haven't seen The Wrestler, Button or some other contenders yet - but I think this year has been really great for movies.

I couldn't really pick a favorite though - Wall-E, TDK and Iron Man are all in the running for me.

I also thought There Will be Blood was waaaay overrated. No Country was okay...if nothing else for Javier Bardem. Haven't seen Slumdog Millionaire, but it smells a lot like those indie films that come out of nowhere and captivate critics (like Little Miss Sunshine and Juno) and many folks go see initially as counter-studio. In most cases, I've found them good, but not necessarily "Best Picture" good. I still plan to see it.

Frost/Nixon I liked because not only did it have such great performances, but brought back a lot of memories to me.

On my list of best:
Wall-E (still tops)
Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Blanchette is wonderful beyond mere words)
TDK (Ledger alone sold the movie to me)

for pure fun:
Iron Man
Tropic Thunder
Wanted
Indy IV

I thought so too, but it was SOOOOO good, nothing like those indie films that you mentioned. Go see it, I'm sure you'll like it

Iron Man was easily the most entertaining film of the year -- more so than The Dark Knight for me; TDK was about 30 mins too long.

I haven't seen to many, still waiting to watch IronMan, Narnia 2 and Rambo.

But as for now I think I'll go with

HELLBOY 2.

Alright... here we go again. We have done this the past two years and people can't help but to list more than one film.

We had some great films of '08 such as: The Dark Knight, Iron Man, Hulk, Appaloosa, Wall-E, Kung Fu Panda, Milk, Benjamin Button, Quantum of Solace, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Mama Mia, and more.

Please do your best to list only one film for your favorite film of 2008. But I have my doubts that many can do that... :)

Giant Chicken's favorite film of 2008 = Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Appaloosa is complete garbage. The filming was atrocious and this is coming from a film student. Okay, it was average... still, that's 2 hours of my life I won't get back. Very boring movie that dragged on and went absolutely no where.

Anyway...

I loved The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Iron Man, and I don't remember any other movie beyond those two that blew me away. Been a busy school semester I just ended so I don't remember much. I do know that Death Race was my guilty pleasure of 2008 though. Sometimes you need a movie that is stupid good fun.

I forgot to add Wall-E to my list. Just watched it again -such a great movie. :D Who'd have thought so many would fall for a little robot. I'd say he's a tie for my favorite with TDK. Still have a ton of movies I want to see...so I'm sure my list will get longer.

Go see Bolt, it's up there with Wall-E.
