It's BBQ season. Does anyone have a favorite BBQ place or even a favorite dish that they like or recommend? There are so many different styles to choose from like Memphis, Kansas City, Texas.,etc.

I like to use apple wood, cherry wood or hickory wood when I BBQ. My favorite thing is slow cooking the ribs indirectly for several hours so they can turn out real tender and juicy.

I just arrived in San Antonio, TX right now and we're looking for a real good place.
 
It really depends on my funds, I don't enjoy blowing alot of cash on food. One thing that never fails in taste and cost is Beercan chicken! If done correct, it is really yummie!:D

I just made beer can chicken the other day and it turned out real good. A good BBQ book that I recommend is How To Grill by Steven Raichlen. He has some real good techniques.
 
For home grilling: teriyaki steak (sliced paper thin and skewerd on bamboo sticks) with a touch of hickory chips for very subtle smokiness.

I'm minutes away from all the Kansas City BBQ places and they're too many good ones to list. One thing though, the much-hyped Arthur Bryant's didn't impress me. Favorite BBQ sauce is KC Masterpiece - original hickory. Best I've had, bar none.
 
The original is about 5 minutes away from me. I remember when it was just a gas station.:lol:lol:lol

My friend lives about 5 minutes from the one on Westover Hills. I'll be trying it tomorrow. We were also thinking of going to a place called Texas Pride BBQ since I saw it on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

Texas Pride is pretty good. I have only been there once as it is about 40 miles from me. I preferred their brisket to Rudy's. When you go to Rudy's make sure to get some turkey and try the cream corn. Their turkey has always been a favorite of mine. That and their BBQ sauce. I freaking love their BBQ sauce.
 
BBQ and Grilling are NOT the same...:lecture :lol

It's true though. Lots of people get mixed up between the two. As a matter of fact they were just talking about that on TV today.

All this talk about BBQ and Grilling is making me hungrier than a mutha ^^^^a.
 
Just had a BIG ASS BBQ at home yesterday, the menu included the following:

-Burgers
-Bratwursts
-Spicy Italian Sausages
-Skewered Vegetables
-Skewered Shrimp
-Skewered Chicken
-Skewered Beef
...and that was only the stuff cooked on the grill, had a few kinds of vegetable salads, fruit salad, and a Cake to wash it all down with.

A great way to kick off the Summer.
 
I love to grill and BBQ. But I like to keep things simple. I don't go in for the trendy "BBQ of the season".

I make a simple BBQ sauce with ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, tobasco sauce, and my not-so-secret ingredients, the sweet-and-sour and hot mustard sauces from McDonald's. Then I add whatever I am craving at the time to the sauce. And my own favorite cooking medium is the old stand-by kingsford charcoal briquettes.


That sauce I use for ribs, chicken, and anything my wife wants me to put it on for her. But when it come to grilling my beloved spencer steaks, I just grill them with a light rub of Tony Chachere's creol seasoning.


Darth Cruel...keepin' it simple all summer long.

Edit - Oops...I forgot to mention...my kids and I pitched the tent in our back yard, dug a fire pit, and cubed up some T-bones that I found on sale. We seasoned them up with Tony's and cooked them over a generic wood fire on hotdog spits, just one bite-sized piece at a time.

That was good stuff.
