/thread.

Thats Baron Karza from the Micronaut line....Story is that George Lucas himself was influenced by this figure and Character when he designed Darth Vader.
That's one heck of a story?

I didn't realize that, but I can definitely see a lot of similarities in their design.
It's my understanding it's the other way around, it wasn't until 1977 after Star Wars, that Mego redesigned Takara Kotetsu Jeeg and released their version under the Micronauts line:
The popular 1975-76 Takara Kotetsu Jeeg hero figure, which Mego later used as the body of the Micronaut’s Baron Karza looked like this:

It wasn't until 1977 after Star Wars, that Mego redesigned it under the Micronauts line, now reimagined as Baron Karza, using the Jeeg figure, though now painted all black, re cast as the villain, and with an all new head sculpt designed by Mego, to in fact look more like Darth Vader.
(though seems rather than samurai elements, more invoking a medieval knight)

That said; I agree Baron Karza was a fantastic villain figure, right there with Vader!

The Marx one? AKA Sam Cobra I think he came out till the 60s-70s?
My older brother had him, and passed him down to me.
And I promptly (before we called it a custom) turned him into Zorro!

Then with my own Gabriel: Butch Cavendish, I did the same.
These mustachioed bad guys all dressed in black were destined to be the heroes in my world. :wink1:
(*for the record he lost the vest, got a head and mask swap and pencil mustache)

Mine was carved from the wood of a hitching post.
Did you ride around on one of those wood stick hobby horses!? :p

My brother had the Gabriel Butch and he got played with way more, but the Lone Ranger's outfit looked the coolest.

I seem to remember Butch even had giant moles sculpted on his face - in keeping with the media/arts view of villains as often being maimed, physically ugly or disabled (with or without creepy lap pets.):rotfl Butch was the Nanny McPhee of our childhood era, just without the ending beauty makeover redemption!
Oh yeah, he had a fantastic ornery face,
If I had him today I would display him proudly among the other permanantly "scarred" trope "maimed, physically ugly classic villains. :lol

Not the best, and a bit hokey , but Mego supplied some good villains.
Though not doing Dr. Doom for their Marvel line was a significant oversight.

Had to wait for Secret Wars (though no cape!)

Had a few Superpowers:

I'm shocked! (no not really) no sign of the original Evil Action figure.
Dr. Evil himself! :lol
He was well before my time though....

There was a really cool figure I had of Jessie from Pokemon that I loved as a kid.

I always liked Jessie, since she was totally my type. She wasn't a teenager, she was cool and mature, but she also wasn't above being feminine and beautiful. To this day I don't really like most young or teenage girl cartoon characters. They're usually too peppy, too bratty, or too idealistically "quirky" for me to like them.

LOL surprised Bob is not stealing the thread
"Power-Kick"? Yeah, in what universe? :lol
I guess "Cut-n-Run" action! wouldn't have sold the figure as well. :rotfl

He arguably got a better fate in the toy commercial than in the movie

Kenner's Catwoman was terrific, I like this commercial; how she ends up head first in the firkin dumpster-
Then Batman rushes in at the end to strike the power-pose next to her, and celebrate the win. :lol
