What really pisses me off is not Sideshow. It is the people who made them have to resort to this in the first place.
all i know is that if their 12 in figures(which i buy the most) ever reach $100 a piece im screwed. im gonna have to forget about exclusives and just buy from other retailers.

They used to ship through UPS, and I believe that Sideshow changed to FedEx in order to take advantage of their signature options upon delivery.

I don't mind waiting at home for expensive statues and such. However, waiting at home for figures can be a pain.

I've lucked out with the FedEx guy delivering to me. He allows me to leave a note. I print out the shipping notification from SS, then I attach a note saying: By my signature on this note, I authorize you to leave package referenced on attached shipping notice at my front door." Then I sign and date it. My deliverer then scans that signature and all's right with the world -- everyone has his/her butt covered. I asked if I could do this back in 04-05 when I was getting at least 2 over-$100 pieces per month. Since both my hubby and I work, it was near impossible to have taken off that much to just sign for the packages.

UPS also has the "in person signature" option. I had the elder Predator the other day and the Fed Ex guy actually call me on my cell and I talked him into leaving it on the patio.

It's kind of insane, since my patio is sunken, you can drop something into it, but no one can see something on it, nor could they get out if they jumped down to steal a package.

During the heavy rains the FedEx guy put the package in a plastic bag and heaved it up onto the upper patio. I never go out there, so luckily he left that fact written on the door hanger. I'm glad it wasn't anything too fragile though.

Your FedEx guy is a real tosser! Literally. :D

FedEx Manual said:
Signature Releases

  1. Shipments with a declared value of US$500 or less may be delivered and released without obtaining a signature when the sender has authorized a release by either signing the Release Signature section of the airbill or by completing the Release Delivery Authorization and Indemnification Agreement for Shippers (obtained through your local FedEx World Service Center or your FedEx account executive), or, at our sole option, upon oral or written instruction from the sender or recipient. A shipment may also be released without a signature if the recipient has provided authorization by signing the Release Delivery Authorization and Indemnification Agreement for Recipients (obtained through your local FedEx World Service Center or your FedEx account executive). We may authorize shipments released without signature to those with accounts in good credit standing and to those who otherwise have established a satisfactory payment history. We also reserve the right to release packages at residential delivery locations without obtaining a signature, provided that none of the restrictions below apply.
  2. At our sole discretion, some shipments may not be released without a delivery signature even when release is authorized, including, but not limited to:
    1. Bill-recipient shipments when the recipient's FedEx account is not in good credit standing or is not indicated on the airbill.
    2. Damaged shipments.
    3. Shipments containing dangerous goods.
    4. Drugs (including prescription drugs) or firearms.
    5. C.O.D. shipments.
    6. Indirect deliveries.
    7. Shipments billed to an invalid or missing credit card number.
    8. Alcohol or tobacco shipments.
    9. One or more packages in a multiple-piece shipment if all packages cannot be safely released.
    10. The delivery location or circumstances are unsuitable for release without signature as determined at our sole discretion.
    11. Pharmaceutical shipments.
  3. At our sole discretion, shipments having a declared value greater than US$500 may not be released without a signature even where the release is otherwise authorized.
  4. Choosing one of the FedEx Delivery Signature Options will override a signature release.
Here you go... this should tell you what you need to know.
