It was more of general observation than a frustration that I can't personally order one I want. Im trying to finish my Justice League PF's and don't have the room for extra DC characters, but Im not sure Power Girl, Catwoman, or Ivy would go over well. I picked up the comic version of Black Widow and her cleavage almost took my eye out. Let me be clear, I LIKE BEAUTIFUL WOMEN. My point is that in an attempt to be respectful to my wife and limit the amount of sexual exposure to my kids those and and others can be a little much. Its splitting hairs and I understand if you're shaking your head saying, "OMG relax. Its just some boobs. Get over it or go away.", but I don't think thats very fair either. Im one guy expressing his opinion for what i think are fair reasons. In no way am attempting to censor your hobby, I'm just trying to have a discussion from a different perspective.

I think you're the only one actually lambasting yourself so far :lol From what I've read, nobody has said to go away or get over yourself, or come at you in a way that made it sound like your opinion wasn't welcome here, or that you were grilling any of us for any tastes that may be different. Hell, nobody even doubted you like beautiful women. It's been a polite discussion through and through, so I don't think you need to respond so defensively as though anyone is putting you on trial here.

Is this the Black Widow statue you picked up?

I'm not sure which other one it may be when you say the comic version and Sideshow. If so, that's a really tame statue for saying that her cleavage almost took your eye out. Were you trying to smell her when it happened?

You also say that it's more of an observation than frustration, and yet the title of the thread is "A Plea to Sideshow..." more or less hoping they'll opt to create more of the conservative outfits some of the recent versions of some female characters wear, so it's clearly somewhat frustrating that you can't just order characters you like -- which is fine. You're allowed to be frustrated. It's not like that frustration means you hate your wife or her beliefs or anything of the sort.

Really though, if the Black Widow statue is too much for you then you should likely stick to the male figures. That's a fairly tame statue, and I'd even say that Catwoman is tame for who she is. She's in a full one piece, the zipper on the statue is pretty high to begin with, and her back is turned for the main pose. But so was Black Widow, and it sounds like you almost dropped her out of shock that she had cleavage :lol

I guess I'm not sure what perspective you're coming from in general. Even tame female statues are too much on the provocative side for your collection, and yet you're curious to hear our thoughts on the subject of Sideshow going in a more modest direction? More modest than the Black Widow figure? Maybe I'm not seeing something others do...it's an attractive statue, but it's not sexualized or a T&A statue.

point taken. apologies. The internet tends to be a little harsh in general to those on the more conservative side of things (a lot of times its well warranted). yeah my title on the thread is misleading and doesn't correctly state my intended direction for the discussion. You ever have one of those moments where you have no leg to stand on, the other person (in this case you) is making great points and you just have to throw your hands up in defeat. This is that moment.

No worries man, it's all good! :hi5:

As Zod just mentioned, I hope you're able to find a good balance in your collection that makes you happy as well as those you live with! Family comes first, and there are plenty of nice pieces out there that should fit the bill! I hope you pick and choose the ones that round out your collection the way you imagine it :)

You have a good point. However I think Comic character's statues are the least of your worries. Check out these ads from American Apparel.

To be fair, those are from a line that goes out of its way to create overly sexualized versions of sometimes already sexualized characters. I wouldn't compare those to the premium format statues that Sideshow creates. In this instance they took two of the least sexual male characters you could find and turned them into voluptuous cosplay girls.

Not to say that personally, I don't like the line. I own Wonder Woman, Harley, Batgirl and Starfire from Kotobukiya.

I feel the authors frustration. I have raised some of these issues myself in various threads. I am married with young children and would appreciate a little more modesty. For me, it's the unnecessary gratuity. The Harley Quinn pf did not need sculpted nipples. I write that because they're are a lot of women in my life who try really hard to relate to my hobby and many of those women and young girls like Harley so they were are all drawn to her and her nips always came up. My wife said she was ridiculous. Not because she was busty but because she doubts Harley wouldn't wear a bra of sorts in that outfit. In the end I got rid of her. In the end the nips were a distraction and nobody ever noticed the rest. Just imagine how we would feel if our superman PF had sculpted ***** tip showing through his undies.

I'm allowing those ads since they are pertinent to the conversation, but normally images like the "made in bangladesh" would not be allowed on this forum.

Funny, I never noticed this aspect of the Harley PF. I don't think it makes a difference one way or another for a character wearing body hugging spandex.

I think it's important because that way we know she doesn't stuff. :lol

Seriously though, that spandex is skintight. You couldn't hide a bra under that thing. I've seen plenty of girls "free-boobing" it, so I don't see why Harley should be the exception. While I don't know that SS had to highlight that feature (mind you I'm not complaining), I don't see anything wrong with it. Just because you can't see a girls nipples, doesn't mean that they're not there. It's also more realistic that a girls nipples would be poking out through a shirt, where it's much less likely it will happen with a guys *****. Plus, I don't think enough people are going to find that attractive enough to warrant a purchase.

Yeah like I mentioned in my last post, sexual concepts are very sensitive. The reality is why is the female suppose to be more conservative about her breast? I have heard every come back; men are pervs and love boobs, female have glands and are susceptible to x ******** and y ********, it's called modesty and blah blah blah.

It's funny cause I saw Arrow and Felicity keeps referencing to Oliver being shirtless. I mean a man's chest and breasts/pecs are just as sexual to a women as it is vice versa.

Point is I just saw on Facebook of a cosplayer being reported for a picture Of her in a bra, no sexual nudity. Now I get it, no nudity. But why are beach photos not removed? What about celebrities wearing under garments? I didn't see reports of people getting in trouble because they had posted the image of Justin Bieber in the Calvin Klein underwear. What about the various pictures of a "body builder-esque" guy with shirtless pics? Nipples are exposed.

To me it's a double standard. I feel that it's seen and ridiculed when not even considered. I used to wrestle and I wore a cup and a singlet one size bigger. Doesn't mean there weren't moments when I or another person can be seen with their junk. Like we said, some of these suits are skin tight, there is no way that nipples or buldges are not visible.

I know I am the minority, and I don't seek to change people's mentalities, but let's be real that this double standard leads to that. We can also go over stats and such of the average time a male thinks of sexual endeavor or even commits them, so it shouldn't be far fetched that such a thing existed.

I also won't deny that artists should tone down the sizes seen and such, but end of the day, it's a comic and shouldn't be seeked as motivation for a girl to fit that size. Like others also mentioned, the outside world isn't as innocent either.

I disagree.

There's no need to claim defeat. You're entitled to your opinion and the whole point to this forum is to discuss our love of a particular hobby. If there's one thing the internet has taught it's that you'll never get unanimous agreement on anything, but at least we're having a civil discussion and no one has compared anyone else to Hitler.....yet :lol

Well said. Much appreciated

They definitely didn't need to use sculpted nipples for Harley, but I mean, it's kind of odd that it was such a focal point for everyone who looked at it. I mean, they're nipples in the end...your kids have'm, as does your wife, as do you. If any of you guys wore spandex, they'd likely show...it's just kind of how it is. Needed? Not really, but it sounds like it was somewhat blown out of proportion if they were brought up every time they looked at your statue. I mean, if Harley didn't have nipples they would've been fine with big boobs? Did they literally say, "What are those pointy things on the tips of her otherwise acceptable big boobs?" And Harley is an insane murderous psycho, so a bra may not be something she worries about too much :lol

I think the Superman example is a bit extreme, as they don't wear the same kind of outfit that Harley does. Batgirl doesn't have nipples showing through her armor, and rightfully so. Superman and Batman don't literally just yank up a pair of underwear...it's armor, no matter how form fitting it is elsewhere. Also, that example would be more on par if the Harley PF had a camel toe...I don't think anyone would really care if Superman came with nipples. But again, it's a different type of outfit he wears. Would it have been an issue with them if you got the Conan statue where he's all nipples out and shirtless?

I disagree.

I wasn't seeing it as him admitting defeat to the topic so much as realizing nobody here was attacking him so he didn't need to be so defensive. Definitely no reason to claim defeat. He's welcome to his views and the types of statues he'd like to pick up! I hope his collection continues to grow the way he likes!

Apologizes. I have removed the picture in question.

Simple answer is just don't buy the ones you and your family find "too" sexy.

The thing with the comic book PFs is that many are based on their source material. For example Poison Ivy, her sexuality is a part of her character and powers. It wouldn't make any sense for Sideshow to put her in snow pants and a parka. I want something that represents the character, which in this case is a busty barely dressed woman who looks like she is trying to seduce me.

I understand if people have kids, jealous/insecure wife or whatever, but to expect such a drastic change for a minority of collectors is unreasonable.

I didn't even notice Harley had nips until it was discussed in one of the threads on this site. I must be less of a perv than I thought. Yes, I actually went and looked at her to be sure they were there.:wink1:

It's funny cause I saw Arrow and Felicity keeps referencing to Oliver being shirtless. I mean a man's chest and breasts/pecs are just as sexual to a women as it is vice versa.

lol, but lets remember that Oliver is a billionaire badboy with a "good heart" and a troubled past who holds a position of power in a major corporation and over Felicity as her boss and who can also basically have any woman in the city that he wants. When one of "those" takes off their shirt woman seem to morph into:

encino-man-014.jpg
...well, us. :lol

On the other hand I've known quite a few girls who will "X" a guy for having a shirtless selfie on his facebook page. I haven't found that to be the case the other way around lol.

They definitely didn't need to use sculpted nipples for Harley, but I mean, it's kind of odd that it was such a focal point for everyone who looked at it. I mean, they're nipples in the end...your kids have'm, as does your wife, as do you.

lol, I don't think its odd at all. If they're all nipples in the end and Harley's are no different than our own, statue companies wouldn't bother adding them and all of us guys would be spending a little more time glued to the mirror... now THAT I would find to be odd, an upside down world. I mean, what red blooded heterosexual male ever looked at a gorgeous topless woman and said, "so what, I've got those" :rotfl

Well I didn't mean it THAT way. :lol Of course the female figure is more attractive to heterosexual men then our own physics...hell, I'm sure many women find the female body more attractive than the male physic as well! :lol I meant it was odd that it was constantly brought up every time it was looked at. The first time, sure, "Well they didn't need to sculpt those in there, but alas..." is an apt response. Them being so distracting that the piece had to be sold? Well, that's definitely an extreme case. To each their own though! Gotta make those we live with happy first and foremost!
