Really it's pretty good for a first sculpt. It's a brave thing to do, jumping off and creating something on your own. Kudos.

I completely re sculpted the jaw today, I think that's where the likeness disappeared mostly. Obviously it's still not great but I'm enjoying this so it's fun to see the progress. I'm thinking of adding the teeth last with something like the end of tooth picks or sculpting and baking them separately. It's just way to awkward to sculpt sharp single teeth in that small space. Anyone any ideas ?.

I know right !.
They were driving me mad , the hardest things for me have been the eyes , lips and as I'm finding out now the ears. Especially on this character.

Here's a quick mock up on photoshop since I think the hat is one of the most recognizable parts of this character. Not sure if I'll ever get a hat for him. Might have to sculpt one.

I like doing these mock ups since they make me feel like I'm getting somewhere.

I've played around with sculpey in the past before making some little heads but I've never actually taken the time to have a go at sculpting anything in particular , so yeah my first time attempting to sculpt properly I guess.

I remember you !. Nice to see you back around.

Spent another hour or so before on this. Been a fun project so far.
No idea where I'm going to go with it when I've finished the head. It's probably in between 1/5 and 1/4 scale so it's a bit awkward.

Quick photoshop and how I need to change the nose. Thinking the eyes may have to be a tad smaller also.

Anybody any advice on smoothing this out ?. I've heard Vaseline might be good to use ?. I'm scared of loosing everything.

Not a bad start at all,better than anything I would be able to do.I tried repainting once and im not gonna try that again,alot of patience is needed and the frustration took me over and i gave up.

Anybody any advice on smoothing this out ?. I've heard Vaseline might be good to use ?. I'm scared of loosing everything.

I don't know if this will help but one tip that'd helped me a whole lot is pressing cling wrap to the sculpt and sculpting through the cling wrap. It can smooth out the surface, make your sculpting marks smoother, and it helps if you want to, say, adjust the eye without mashing up everything around it.

Much appreciated !. Funnily enough after I posted that yesterday I watched a few youtube videos and saw a few guys sculpting through clingfilm. I need to add wrinkles on this also so that should help I think.

For Super Sculpey use rubbing alcohol or baby oil. dip a small paint brush in it and brush gently. Again, try it out on a test piece of clay. roll out some noodles onto a random piece and try blending the edges until you get the hang of it. I'll see if I can find a video on it for you too.
