It's an issue of biology and physics--how can something grow, run and kill, stick people up on the wall, etc., without an energy source? I. . .don't. . .know. Not that it matters from the POV of trying to enjoy a great film, but that was something not really explained in the movie.

I suppose some energy will be drawn from the host for initial growth as the chestburster locates itself in such a position where it will get the most heat, kinetic energy from the heart and also near the tract for the throat so it can siphon actual consumed food matter by the host.

Another factor I weigh up is that upon successful impregnation the facehugger detaches and dies rather quickly, so I speculate that it not only transfers an embryo but also any energy it has, be it in some form of liquid or physical tissue. Thus giving the embryo energy to form into the larval stage (chestburster) and the energy from the host to become the full grown alien.

If you noticed, he uses deleted scenes to try and make his point stronger but, deleted scenes are deleted because there are people like this guy who have to analyze every aspect of a movie to find all the holes.
