I really enjoyed the movie, and that would've ended it nicely for me too. I watched it for a few episodes after the fiml was released and went to video (don't remember the exact season). It just wasn't the same.

As for the figure, Justin you defintely got the good one. The Home version. The first was pretty meh, and the suit is huge particularly the coat.

The previews for Duchovny's new show look pretty good (i.e. lots of nekid women). I'll be checking it out.

Duchovy mentioned on some talk show earlier this year (Leno?) that they had everyone on board for a new movie and it would be a stand alone.

The Mulder & Scully FBI jackets were my first Sideshow exclusive accessories, and I still reckon they're among the coolest. Haven't picked up the last Mulder & Scully yet though.

Good likeness?

I would say those paint apps look suspiciously like they came from the same factory as Yavin Luke. Its hard to tell how good a likeness the actual sculpt is beneath that monstrosity.

Well, I was being a bit facetious with those photos (that I guess Dave removed??). But my impression is that it's a good sculpt. Mat Falls sculpted both Mulder and Yavin Luke. Like any artist, his style pervades each of his portraits. But while I cannot see Mark Hamill in the Yavin Luke no matter how many photos I compare, I can easily see David Duchovny on the first try. I think Mat's Mulder and Jedi Luke are some of his best works.

All the better to fit on a Hot Toys body. ;)

Right now I've got the original version's clothes on the Home body, but I think I'm going to be sending off the spare head for a repaint.

That should settle the sculpt vs. bad paint issue once and for all. I'm coming down on the side of the latter (that the paint blows it). Same is true for Scully, but unfortunately I don't have a spare head for her at this point.

My favorite aspect is that now Luke Skywalker is as tall as Fox Mulder and Darth Vader!

:rotfl

I will be repainting him shortly. I am betting he will look good. But I guess I shouldn't count my chickens before they hatch. :monkey5

I'm looking forward to seeing these re-paints, I think it's a really good sculpt.

I've seen some real magic worked by painters who know their stuff, but I can't see this sculpt being saved by a killer paintjob alone. If you study pictures of DD you see there are many problems with this sculpt that paint isn't going to fix. The eyes are to far apart and shaped wrong. The nose is to long from the bridge to the nostrils. Mouth isn't shaped right. Paint can't fix these things. Maybe this turned out so wrong because the actor requested changes? If I was a sculptor or company I think I would demand that a disclaimer be printed on the packaging stating that the likeness was authorized and approved by the actor/actress. That way the sculptor is off the hook and irrate fans can blame the poor portrait on the subject and not the artist. Falls' sculpts are very clean and smooth, but seldom capture a good likeness. As a collector I'ld prefer that a sculptor save their "style" for personal work and concentrate on achieving an accurate portrait first, then work in the bells and whistles. I'm buying figures for who the character is, and I'ld prefer they look as much like the actual person as possible.

I have a Mulder being repainted by the Figuremaster, so that may end this debate once we see pictures.

I can wait to see that! I've had the head lying around for months. Bought the figure loose and cheap for his shirt and have been itching to see someone do something to make him look more like Fox!
