Sax player gives Lost Boys infinite positive rep points.

But that's the most frustrating thing about this movie. It should have been about the relationship between Corey Feldman and Sax Player. **** the vampires.

Yeah.... There is so much Homerotic elements in The Lost Boys that we should have seen the Bat Nipples coming as soon as Joel Schumacher was announced to direct.

I always got a kick out of Corey H poster in his room...

why do people consider Near Dark such a great movie... it blows.

It is honestly one of the worst vampire movies of that time. It was boring, acting was over the top, characters were idiotic hobos.... What's so great about that movie?

I remember people on Facebook once saying how it was one of the best vampire movies.... What is so great about it? I really dont get it

One of the worst Vamp movies of all time?? Really?? You got to see more Vampire films :)

Anyways

Some of your criticisms could be directed at Lost Boys also as it is a bit boring (not much Vamp action) and the acting is over the top and some of the lines are eye rolling bad. I enjoy The Lost Boys for what it is but I have never been a huge fan of it... Sort of like you with Near Dark, I never understood the "Love" for that film. It's an easy watch but just not my cup of tea... (I never liked The Goonies either and that has a huge following that I don't get also)

Near Dark is not a perfect film... I will give you that but it has great dialogue by Paxton ("I hate it when they ain't been shaved.." "Finger Lickin' Good..") and Lance ("Just a couple of moments of your time which is about the same duration as the rest of your life")... Some cool original action scenes with the Police when the Vamps are at the hotel and the Sun is at it's highest.... Bar Room Scene is classic!!!! Vampires are a threat, not fun to be around, and are evil.

Like I said it's not perfect... However I may feel differently had I not seen this film when it first came out and it was a like a new found gem.... Had I heard that it was "One of the best Vampire film ever" like you then I may have been let down... As it is I have a problem with the Love Story and the blood transfusion but any time Bill and Lance are on the screen... Well I Love it.

PS..... I don't want to sound like I am Bashing on the Lost Boys too much... Just pointing out what I don't like about it. But I understand that there is much to love also.

Bill Paxton. Period.

Yep :)

I mean, maybe i need to give it another watch but to me it doesnt even count as a vampire movie, not really. they could be anything and it wouldn't change anything.

i didnt really think of it as a vampire movie to be honest. i guess i was disappointed in how non vampire near dark felt to me. but i might watch it again, I still don't get it

At least the guys in Lost boys were va,pires and did vampire stuff. I dont even remember if they had fangs in near dark.....

Nope... No fangs... But death by Sunlight, the need for blood, the inability to eat real food, turning into one after being bitten, and immortality pretty much made them vamps..

It was directed by Kathryn Bigelow, who one the Oscar for the Hurt Locker. She was Dating James Cameron at the time (or near that time) hence half the Marine core from Aliens being in it.

It still might not be for you... It does feel dated (mostly due to budget) and it is boring at times. But Paxton and Henriksen are great IMO.

But you may find that you enjoy it more with your expectations lowered...

Let me put it this way... If you find no enjoyment out of the clip I posted then I doubt you will like it. But if you did then give it another spin.

PS - It's nowhere near as good as The Thing :)

it's like the Twilight of the 80s :lol (human falls for Vampire... wow it really is like the TL of the 80s hahaha)

I was thinking about it, and I guess to me Near Dark feels closer to Texas Chainsaw 2 or Hills have eyes or something like that. about murderers (hillbilly murderers actually) , but not really vampires.

I think you need to give it another chance. It actually is a bit a head of it's time. It was sort of an Action/western/road movie/horror film. It was also written by eric Red who wrote The Hitcher... Another classic Road movie/action/horror film. It actually inspired other Vamp films to come after it.

I always looked at it as a more realistic approach to Vampires... It would really be a life of hiding and living on the road. You would always have to be on the move and cover you tracks if you wanted to survive in todays world. You would live the life of outlaws. Take away the immortality and life would not be so great. You would live more like Gypsies then politicians. Yes I believe that Near Dark may have influenced the Twilight films and The HBO show True Blood. But I also believe it influenced better Vampire films like From Dusk Till Dawn and 30 days of Night.

Sorry to turn this into a Near Dark vs Lost Boys debate :) but they were released 3 months apart and have been the subject of debate in my life with my best friend. He prefers Lost Boys.. We have had this Debate since Near Dark appeared on Video... I still to this day point out to him every time it makes it in a major publications top Horror list or Top Vampire movie list. I always say "Told you so" :) I am shocked how often I see it on that lists in Horror mags and such. But it's good to be right ;)

yeah i will

Just watched Near Dark and found it pretty bland. Paxton's character was hoot, but the others and the dude from Heroes, meh. Was funny seeing all the people from the Terminator and Aliens movies show up.

I personally love FRIGHT NIGHT-- it's a good film and something of a special piece of cinema to me. I think after reviewing both films I'd have to say Lost Boys has more umph to it, if only slightly, due to the film having more character interaction and more locations. Fright Night primarily was shot on a film stage lot (and you could tell) with 8 or 9 actors total. Now at the time, had they cast Fright Night right--and I'm going by what I watched in the new making of Fright Night documentary, it would have been a MASSIVE hit and arguably a much bigger production than Lost Boys, Gremlins, Goonies and Ghostbusters combined had someone like Spielberg co-produced. In the documentary director Tom Holland says he turned down Charlie Sheen for the role of Charley Brewster and Anthony Michael Hall was supposed to play Evil Ed. Now. Chris Sarandon and Roddy McDowall were perfect in my opinion, had they cast someone like Tom Cruise as Charley , who was set to star in the film LEGION in 85, and maybe Elizabeth Shue or Phoebe Cates as the love interest, perhaps Eric Stoltz as Evil Ed, the movie would have been much more marketable and overall a better film given the chemistry of all the actors. The only other actor that could have replaced Sarandon as Jerry , again only in my opinion, who would have the depth and gravitas with the eloquent charm so to speak , would have been that of a young Mickey Rourke ....but that opens a whole can of worms really.

On my film scale, Lost Boys gets roughly a 7.4 rating and Fright Night gets a 7.2
