Obviously not how I see it, but that’s your take and you‘re entitled to it.

We could go back and forth with you citing reasons you’re bothered by it and me stating reasons why I like it. But most everyone else will tune out due to lengthy posts.

Snyderverse is so dead that Jazz Inc. just announced a charity event approved by Warner Brothers for Zack Snyder Justice League.

WB really REALLY needs to take meds for schizophrenia :rotfl

They can’t decide whether to milk the cow or make a hamburger.

Watchmen is bit different as it was created in its entirety as a deconstruction (and largely because DC wouldn’t let them use actual established DC characters to deconstruct). But the comic actually does start in many ways as a traditional “hero” comic and plays with those expectations, particularly when it flashes back to the “glory days” of the original heroes. It’s quite a different endeavor to deconstruct an archetype in a wholly unique one-off world compared to deconstructing them in a franchise trying to build up to a connected universe to compete with Marvel (or DC’s own print and animated offerings).
Yea trying to deconstruct the characters they were meant to go head to head with the mcu and alienating the fanbase wasn’t such a good idea.

I’ve said it many times by now, but in hindsight it’s utterly amazing that WB agreed to let Snyder deconstruct DC’s two most iconic superheroes. Especially in BvS for the first ever live action blockbuster teamup of Superman and Batman! ZSJL is a reconstruction, mind you. But both MoS and BvS deconstruct heavily.

I mean for those of us that appreciate it, we’re grateful that Snyder did what he did. But I totally understand how a great many fans would absolutely hate it.

Snyder knew it would be polarizing. He’s basically said so. But the execs honestly must have been in la la land. Charles Roven knew what was going on. But Kevin Tsujihara at least was out to lunch.

Yep big leaks coming from executives within the industry claiming that all this was just market manipulation leading towards for a much bigger merger it was never intended to be a Discovery + lead endeavor as claimed by new WB.

WB definition of long term is different than most lol

The way they've been gutting content and cancelling projects is exactly the behavior of someone expecting to do a firesale and then get the hell out on a golden parachute. Ultimately, it's not good for fans and viewers, but a lot of rich guys up top are going to be very happy if it all goes through.

Yea it’s the execs fault really. They were the ones who wanted to rush everything. WB doesn’t know there characters at all

Than they canceled all those movies just for the heck of it? **** it . Sell DC to Disney. It’s almost about that time. I never seen a studio fumble so hard with billions. Even Sony isn’t dumb enough to sit on a popular character. They will churn out crap villian origin stories to keep the rights. WB seems to not care.

I don’t even know if what WB is trying to pull off will pass with the government regulators here and abroad.

It will. This country needs a new Roosevelt to bust these corporations up. I’m tired of reading about how absolutely toothless the FTC is and how everybody and their mother can now buy whatever business they want and it’s instantly approved.

Part of the reason WB’s in the dire straits they’re in right now is because AT&T is a telecom with no idea how the hell to run an entertainment company. They noticed Marvel was making a crapload of money for Disney and saw dollar signs with no idea how to actually make the IP work for them. Then, they mismanaged the business they put themselves into so much debt buying to the point where it not only has been tanking their business, but is liable to bankrupt a storied, cinematic legacy.

Like, it’s easy to make Zaslav out to be a super villain because he’s basically strip-mining the whole operation for parts, but I don’t envy that guy’s position in the slightest. From a business perspective, he’s using the system in the most practical way possible to try and get the massive loser that is Warner Bros into the black. Whether it’s cancelling high profile projects for tax incentives or sabotaging HBO Max because he thinks they can make more money licensing content to other outfits/using their platform for cheap, easy to produce reality content. I may not like it, but it makes sense.

It just sucks that as a consumer and a film buff, I have to watch the studio that gave us Casablanca, Cool Hand Luke, and Citizen friggin’ Kane reduced to a money pit making “Another Duck Dynasty,” “Three Love Islands,” and “We Couldn’t Poach The Kardashians From Hulu But Caitlyn Jenner Needed Some Work So Here Ya Go.” Particularly when the whole thing could’ve been avoided had the government not let AT&T overextend themselves by spending like $6 billion they didn’t have in the first place.

Keaton’s Batman doesn’t die in the Flash. Neither does Affleck’s.

You see West, Bale, Pattison etc. in screens/pictures acknowledging they exist in multiple universes btw.

Zaslav is on the right track that a connected DC film universe… which can include TV shows I guess, why not… with the original awesome cast which means the trinity… will be popular. The old WB regime obviously had its head up its ass. The tone will be more mythic, epic, and grand, and not as comedic (some sure, but not non-stop quipping), than MCU. They just have to make quality films. They can find investors for that! Original cast plus quality = success.

The comic side of DC will probably die in all this
Not just comics. Their whole game division is in limbo. I keep hearing from friends in the industry they’re scared to start new projects under WB because who knows what might be cancelled or cut. Games are too often viewed as expendable.

A game like Injustice 2 - with crossovers with Hellboy, Ninja Turtles, and Mortal Kombat - required a lot of red tape and corporate synergy. This just doesn’t happen if leadership is in disarray.

Who wants to gamble on an expensive game about Superman when they can’t even get a Superman movie off the ground?
