Has anyone heard when Gentle Giant will be releasing the animated LOTR figures that were previewed at SDCC?? I have been waiting anxiously ever since I laid eyes on them yet I have heard nothing about them...

Am I the only one who finds these whimsical but not really in keeping with the spirit of LOTR?

Next we'll be getting super-deformed figs, or beany babies, or CHUBBYS!!!

I love the look of the animated figures. The Star Wars figures are amazing but there are too many characters and I discovered them too late. I plan on jumping into the animated LOTR figures from the start.

Also, the animated Johnny Depp was awesome.

I thought they where really impressive. I don't know how many I'll buy but I'll get the Fellowship for sure.

Can't wait for the Gray version of Gandalf the Gray with an ES of 50!

I'm not on the GG band wagon right now.

lol , funny thing is...if GG made an edition of 50 i wouldnt be surprised at all! :lol

got into the SW ones a little late, so i hope to collect the LoTR line...if not, then just gandalf (my fav character)

I'm glad finances have made me not even consider this line. GG's busts look amazing, granted we haven't had one come out from LOTR. But this line is looking to be a joke, especially with the grey Fett. You all know it's only a matter of time before they do the same thing with a LOTR maquette.

Did they show any characters other than Saruman and Gandalf?

I've only found one pic of them and it wasn't even that good of a shot so if anybody could post some better pics it would be appreciated.

Here's a clearer pics of GG Animated Saruman Maquette :rock

Thanks!

I love the super stylized look of the Clone Wars cartoon so I think these are great.

Tolkien is probably spinning in his grave though.

I won't argue that these look pretty cool. My main problem is that LOTR wasn't animated. It's the same problem I have with the OT maquettes that are coming out now.

I love the stylized art of CW, and these all look cool, and I have no problem with whether they were animated or not (and LOTR WAS animated, just not by Gendy and co.) but I mean Star Wars originally didn't have everyone wandering around with big heads and I love the VCD.

I just don't think this style works AS WELL with LOTR as it does with SW, not to say these are bad, I love em', but the style is much more Star Wars. I'd like to see some statues based on the original Hobbit and LOTR cartoons I grew up with, or the poster art would make for good non-movie based sculpts.

I'd like to see some from the Bakshi film but not so much from the Rankin-Bass.:D

These are...........................different i guess. I don't think ill collect this line but wouldn't rule out buyin the odd pieces of my fave characters.

Gandalf does look pretty cool. But saruman would look more in place in sesame street than orthanc. Its somethin about the eyebrows that reminds me of a muppet.

The pics I took for TheGD.com are here. From what I've seen, they remind me more of Doulton or Danbury Mint or even Lladro versions, which will sit better with other similar styles of art.
