Re: 12" Gandalf coming Toyfair 2008

I'd say they waited to get Gandalf perfect, hat and all. This looks to be a knock out of the park! Can't wait! The Fellowship is getting another step closer towards completion!

While we wait for the hobbits, does anyone else want not only Merry and Pippin to complete the set, but Merry in Rohan armor and Pippin in Gondor armor?!

That...would be darn kewel...

Re: 12" Gandalf coming Toyfair 2008

I have a feeling that once Gandalf hits, the line will be picking up some serious steam :monkey3

Re: 12" Gandalf coming Toyfair 2008

YIPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At long last a new 1:6 announcement! The line lives! And such AMAZING accessories! You can see that Glamdring has that gorgeous leaf-shaped blade, and the book is SUCH A COOL ACCESSORY!!! I can't believe it! At long last! Huzzah! HUZZAH!!!

After all these long years, who would believe it?

Re: 12" Gandalf coming Toyfair 2008

Oh, and the pouch was kept tied to the top of his pre-Orthanc battle staff, along with his pipe. It was used to store his pipe-weed. The fact that they included something so small is simply amazing, and if the pipe is actually removable I'm gonna flip with glee! So then, does this mean that the post-Rivendell staff will be the exclusive? and will he also have the option of his two cloaks too? So many questions--questions that need answering!

That's exactly what I was wondering, but for some reason I think the Book from Balin's tomb might be the exclusive.

Re: 12" Gandalf coming Toyfair 2008

That would be unfortunate if they used an exclusive in a teaser shot, seeing as people might get excited for it and find they can't get one. Regardless, the exclusive will be mine! I can't wait!!!

Re: 12" Gandalf coming Toyfair 2008

Except the teaser images almost NEVER show the exclusive accessory.

Maybe so, but then why would the book be an accessory? It just does not make any sense to have it other than to be an exclusive IMO.

Re: 12" Gandalf coming Toyfair 2008

Well, Palpatine came with a Holocron and a floating camera droid, and those are pretty superfluous as well. The extra staff is the most sensible thing, especially since it'll be essential for any Moria scenes. Same with the other cloak. Either way, he's got to have the option of which staff to use, exclusive or no. I'm more curious to see this guy than any in a long while. Of course, we haven't really had any in a long while, but that's beside the point now. :D

Because should one choose to recreate the scene in Balin's Tomb they would have said book? Because Merry and Pippin will probably be loaded as is? If someone is just getting Gandalf they can make an interesting pose? Because the detail they put into the book will be a marvel? Because his post-Orthanc staff will be the exclusive?

Re: 12" Gandalf coming Toyfair 2008

So Gandalf had two cloaks? What are the differences?

LotR figures have been known to have two exclusives, one a cloak and one something else (like the other staff) so he could as well.

Re: 12" Gandalf coming Toyfair 2008

I hope so. One, the pre-Orthanc cloak, is very simple, a heavy, rough-spun wool cloak with a big hood, best seen when he's knocking Bilbo's door. His post-Rivendell cloak is more of a robe, made of smoother material, with no hood, and cut in a large, massive square shape hanging over his arms to create a sleeve-like appearance--it's best seen as he reaches the three doors in Moria where he loses his way, and while he tries to open the doors of Moria. Both are very unique, meaning you really can't fake the one being the other. At least, I couldn't get myself to do that.

Re: 12" Gandalf coming Toyfair 2008

OK I remember the differences now. With them both just being Grey, the casual observer wouldn't notice it (like with the staffs). Thanks for pointing the differences out Cap.

I just wonder what effect on the articulation the beard and hair will have. Hey, there is a though, what about interchangable hair as an exclusive. He could have the hair in his eyes (ie Balrog fight) or more slicked back. Unlikely, but a thought.

It's about damn time. I wish they'd put the SW line on hold for awhile, give LOTR a turn to shine on a consistent basis.
