Got my order in, and I'm looking forward to seeing these maquettes in person at SDCC so I can decide whether or not to commit to this line.

Woo-hoo, another thread, another chance for Woodsy to have a go at Weta!
Sideshow are doing the same thing with their price hikes. I'm not complaining about the price at all, i know these things are going to cost more than a few years ago. It's up to the company that makes them to decide their price point.
As to the likenesses, well Sideshow have made just as many duds as Weta ever did. Wiki LSB, GTW PF, Galadriel PF, Legolas PF and LSB.... the only likeness from Weta that i'd say was bad is Aragorn and Legolas. And this GTG statue does not look like Ian Mckellen, the Weta one does, so i don't get why you want to suddenly out of nowhere bash the Weta one. But continuously pointing this out is getting tiresome, but if some people want to continue it.... :)
Yes, the exclusives may not cost much, but in my opinion alot of them are bizarre.
As for great-looking bases, well this may be just me but i prefer normal blank bases so it DOESN'T take away from the character, these aren't dioramas :peace

:lol

But seriously, I guess over all it looks OK, tho once again, the Ex is way better, from the side the Reg looks a bit like he's doing the 'hockey pockey', put your left foot in.....

Given the base and extra height, etc, I don't think it would fit in very well with the rest of the Weta statues, which is a bit of a worry for some possible future ones.

As for likeness, sure, it's good, but then there is nothing at all wrong with with the SSW GtG statue.

So, in the end, I'm more then happy with the one I've got, this is no more then the 'ultimate version' then the PF or SSW one is and if I was going to get another Gandalf, I'd get the PF.

Not bad at all and whilst i prefer 1/6th for space i'll stick with the magnificent PF.:)

Must have partnered up with the ML......now its all beginning to make sense.

Re: Gandalf the Grey Maquette - July 5 preorder

Not interested, the PF is a much nicer piece IMO; and the hat sits kinda funny on his head.

:1-1: thanks, i was beginning to think i was the only odd one here to like the PF to this.

Tom, Please give a full review once you have seen them in person for those of us that can't be there. :monkey3

I've got my order as well... just am unsure I want to commit to another line.

No not at all, in fact I don't think this is the ultimate representation of Gandalf that SS was hoping for. I find both the PF and SSW piece to be much more iconic of the character, cloak blowing in the wind Gandalf aside. :lol

Did I miss a competition? :dunno

Really the pose with the PF and this piece aren't much different. If the outfit on the PF had wires in it you could do the same thing. They're also equally as dirty so I don't know where this clean business comes from.

Also as far as ultimate versions. Did I miss where they said this was that? Can't recall that being said.

Watch the video introduction again, SS said that they wanted these to not be scene specific as much as the ultimate representations of the characters.

Right I think they did a great job with Gandalf showing the power the character has especially in the moria sequence. We have pieces that show his leadership skills basically with the SSW piece.

Then you should really get it, it just isn't the most iconic for me or something I am interested in.

Video shows how pretty cool this piece is along with the High Res photos I really think folks will be happy. Still not a huge fan of the regular pose but the Ex makes up for that. Overall, the piece really looks to be quite awesome. :rock
