Re: NBA 2012-2013

Couldn't of said it better, of course I realize this series could go either way and I'm pretty nervous for my team.

The series could go either way. If James plays like he has this year and he gets any help it could go badly. I think Pop is the right coach to go against them right now though.

Re: NBA 2012-2013

Come on Wake, you were def MIA after those losses, I mean just GONE. But I am with you in that I think the heat will take this, prob in 6. I think the heat's big 3 will still end soon though. Lebron wants a legit big man to play with...this will become a necessity as he gets older. So either they get him one, or he leaves. Either way, bosh and wade are both gone soon. Still, gonna pull for Timmy in this series despite my projected outcome...dude's a class act.

Re: NBA 2012-2013

Honestly I doubt Ray Allen with be the major difference maker in this series.

The problem with Ray Allen is, if he's on, and gunning away, he still gives up as much as he would give you on the defensive end. In the past three years, he's probably lost a good two-three steps in terms of mobility and speed on the defensive end. He's good at what he should be, a spot up part time gunner, but I suspect his dead streaks are coming from his progressively losing yet another half step from his game. This becomes a much larger factor because neither Cole, Chalmers or Allen can effectively guard Tony Parker. If Tony Parker can penetrate at will, that keys off the entire Spurs offense and it will be a long night for the Heat. Keep Parker out of the paint and the driving lanes, and it's a whole different situation.

The key to the Heat IMHO is Haslem. He's got to his his mid range jumper and be able to draw off Splitter and Diaw to open up the driving lanes for Wade and James. Also it relieves some pressure off of Bosh.

I'm not too worried about Duncan's age. He's purely sound in terms of his footwork. Other than Kevin McHale and Oscar Robertson, I'm not sure anyone in NBA history had such consistent and stellar footwork. He's always where he's supposed to be and always in the right position, it's just that he needs help at his age in terms of team defense. Neutralizing James is about a team defensive effort, Leonard just has to make him work.

The Spurs IMHO need more to go right, more smaller moving parts and issues to work in their favor to win. They need Ginobili to dig down deep and give instant offense. They need Splitter badly to take out the Heat Stretch 4s but still be able to rotate back in to hammer the cutters. They need Danny Green to get on a hot streak. When Green is on, he's on, and there is nothing Stern can do about it.

Great analysis...sounds like you're picking the Heat, because like how I feel a lot of the little things are going to have to go the Spurs way for them to have a chance, but you definitely nailed the reasons behind the challenges the Spurs will have to face.

Basically it comes down to consistency of outside shooters for Spurs and Manu will need to contribute. The Spurs cannot slack off for a moment like they tend to in other series (allow 20 point leads, come back from 20 down). Heat won't have none of that.

On Miami's side, they too will need to have their outside shooting fall (Allen, Haslem), Bosh can't play like a scared p***y, Wade will need to be healthy and, like Manu, will need to contribute in some way.

LBJ, Tony and Tim will get theirs. No question. It's interesting because both teams CLEARLY have their faults. But it's really all about whose supporting cast is going to show up.

Re: NBA 2012-2013

Good analysis. So what's you're prediction?

Also in regards to Duncan's age, I made a statement in my previous prediction and didn't include enough detail to clarify it. Your statement summed up what I was trying to say very succinctly:

I'm not too worried about Duncan's age. He's purely sound in terms of his footwork. Other than Kevin McHale and Oscar Robertson, I'm not sure anyone in NBA history had such consistent and stellar footwork. He's always where he's supposed to be and always in the right position, it's just that he needs help at his age in terms of team defense. Neutralizing James is about a team defensive effort, Leonard just has to make him work.

If Lebron drives to the basket and Tim is on the opposite side guarding Bosh outside of the paint, he won't be able to make it back quickly enough to challenge Lebron. Like you inferred, Kawhi and the rest of the team will need to funnel James towards Tim Duncan.

Re: NBA 2012-2013

Great read...so Spurs in 7? I would love that, I just don't think Miami's home cooking would allow for that. Spurs either need to clinch on their home floor (fat chance in a 2-3-2) or steal game 6.

In fact when I wiki game 7's if I read it correctly, since the nba has gone to the 2-3-2 format in 1983 or 1984 iirc, no road team has won game 7 on the road in the Finals. So those that are picking Spurs in 7, bless their hearts, are asking the Spurs to do something unprecedented...if the Spurs are to win it has to be Spurs in 6 or nothing imo...
