Re: NBA 2012-2013

So what I l liked about last night. When the spires got on their run they just kept going. They made their shot and ran back down the court to run defense, they didn't gloat or act like it was their first time making a shot. Where Miami, lebron for instance blocks a shot and just stands there flexing like a fool while his teams at the other end of the court or swinging on the rim like a fool. Shows class and discipline. Man I want Duncan to get his 5th..

Re: NBA 2012-2013

next season look for Indiana to press the heat even harder to make the finals.. going four times in a row might not have happened since those old celtic teams and the league was different then.. Just doesn't happen.. Teams get gassed (wade and bosh look tired) SA is a tough place to win.. Heat will be lucky to get a split to keep it alive

Yeah, that's why I was confused you took that bet, especially after they were blown out. Pop would have been all over them after that and have got that **** straightened out.

Yeah, but. . .Lebron is a "brand" now. He's as concerned about his public image and ability to sell shoes and headphones as he is about his ability to win on the court. That blocked shot and his alpha gorilla pose after it are going to be money in his pocket. If it means the other team scores because he's not down there on defense, so be it.

NBA 2012-2013

When you get emotionally invested losing is so hard. I disappear because my psyche literally cannot take the pain of acknowledging a loss. I woke up today feeling depressed. It was
The first thing I thought of.

I hope the Heat can rally back again. Although if they keep doing this its only inevitable that they will lose two in a row eventually.

Lebron didn't play well. Credit San Antonio. In fact outside of mike miller no one played well. But I really so wish the world would relax. They make it seem like lbj is Joffrey borratheon. Fact is people hate him so much and want him to lose and I don't really understand it. He's never gloated. He's said all the right things the last couple of years. He's not the one claiming to be better than mike. In fact it's the same fools that postulated the question that are ripping him down.

We used to root for greatness in America. And it's ok if you root for the greatness of the spurs instead. But most just root against Miami and San Antonio justs benefits from a larger bandwagon.

Ill give you credit that you made a decent post and valid point. But then I looked left and saw you avatar and it reminded me of how much I despise him and all you points were null and void to me again.. :rotfl:lol

Re: NBA 2012-2013

lets not forget calling yourself the king and getting the chosen one written across your back.. and maybe going 1-3 when it matters most.. its cool though, he can come to my team after next season of playing with these turds

Re: NBA 2012-2013

He's full of hubris. And I would say we strive for greatness in America, but I wouldn't say we put those who are great on a pedestal, unless you're talking about people who did genuinely good things for society through their greatness, like FDR. Valuing humility (not Lebron-type false humility) and rooting for the underdog is a universal human trait. I would think that supporting front-runners has a more limited appeal. Having said all that, I saw a guy from a public opinion firm yesterday who said seventy something percent of national respondents liked Lebron, so maybe the apparent polarization here is not really widespread.

And, like Bodie, I would be the first to welcome him with open arms if he came to New Orleans. Of course, that will never happen. If NO ever lucks into another great situation like they did with Chris Paul, it's destined to be short lived and not to lead to a championship.

Re: NBA 2012-2013

I really hate the Lebron vs MJ debate because Jordan is the best ever probably and when people make that debate it's saying Lebron is at the very least the second best ever, when In my opinion, he's not a top ten player, let alone 2nd or 1rst

Re: NBA 2012-2013

The problem I have is that it's a ridiculous comparison to look at one guy with a full, all-time great body of work against a guy who is still an active player, arguably in the prime of his career. If you want to compare Lebron now vs. MJ at this point of his career, then that makes more sense. But frankly I have no idea if MJ will be better or worse than Lebron in the final analysis. As of this moment, MJ is greater because he has accomplished more (with less), but like I said, it's not a fair comparison.

Lebron has said that he thinks he can be the greatest player ever though, so I guess he opens himself up to those things.

Lol. What did Michael Jordan do for society?

Lebron apologized and admitted the decision wouldve been done differently if at all. Why the apprehension to forgive? Isnt america a country built on second chances...

Ultimately the hate he gets is really not warranted. He never committed or was accused for an act against society (Like Kobe Bryant was, and Mike Tyson, and Ray Lewis), he never committed an immoral act (like Kobe Bryant, or Tiger Woods' cheating on his wife with a Waffle house waitress). It's irrational. He's hated because of a pep rally that wasn't intended for public consumption outside of Miami fandom.

But I guess its the society we live in. The same reason the world is calling for the JP Morgan Chase CEO's head on a pike for using the word bull **** in casual conversation. The same reason CNN breaks from all of the world's news so it can televise the Patriot's OTA news conference because Tim Tebow (???) got signed. It's ****ing TIM TEBOW! :slap

Re: NBA 2012-2013

He's hated because he is considered by many the best player is the world and he joined up with another all star to join another all stars team, all more or less in their primes, It comes off cowardly, and yes the prep rally didn't help. When Lebron was a cav, I had no problem with him, but these actions have left a sour taste in my mouth and as long as he's a member of the Heat I won't like him nor the team.

Also, Jordan isn't better because he accomplished more, he's better because he's better.

Re: NBA 2012-2013

I don't know why you're taking offense Wake. We both acknowledge there is a lot of dislike for Lebron. I'm trying to think of the most likely reason for it. You are suggesting that it makes no sense and the people who feel that way are all insane. I'm afraid that just can't be the reason.

I think it's a combination of things that makes Lebron the kind of public personality some just don't like. The pep rally thing and "the Decision" are indicative of his mindset. You can't put that genie back into a bottle. His personality and the way he presents himself makes him a lot less likable than Jordan was to my eyes. They had some similarities like the drive to win and achieve greatness, but somehow when Jordan spoke, even though I disliked him beating up on my Jazz teams, I never felt a kind of deep revulsion for his personality. His pursuit of greatness was more admirable somehow, and some of the intangibles of how he presented himself no doubt contributed to that.

As for indiscretions with their wives, I couldn't care less about that kind of thing. It's those folks' private lives, and there are a lot more heinous activities they could have been involved with. Lebron's in everyone's face all the time. He's a public "brand," and it affects a sport that many of us love in important ways. And Tim Tebow sells dish detergent, so it's gonna dominate the news whether or not it's really newsworthy.

Re: NBA 2012-2013

After one game? MJ never had off nights?

I personally think that kind of talk is pointless because LBJ is still a work in progress, while MJ had an all-time great career, and it just doesn't make sense to compare two people that way. But on the other hand, one game doesn't mean much of anything. . .potential exception being the final game of a Finals series.

MJ had off nights like that in the finals!? :rotfl

Re: NBA 2012-2013

I honestly don't remember if he did, but players have bad games, even in the playoffs. What matters is that he was able to pull it off and win series. If Lebron can do that despite being down two games, then he'll deserve respect for it.

how can you say it wasnt intended for public consumption when it was televised? you dont see the SuperBowl champions on tv unless youre living in that city.

i didnt like Lebron when he was with the cavs because he went along with people calling him "the king" when he didnt win any championships at that point.

LBJ will never equal MJ cause MJ was perfect in the finals, LBJ has already lost two finals series and isn't looking good so far this series.

embrace the hate, it means he's doing a good job. I hated Jordan and Bird while they played, respected what they did when they were done.

Wake I don't think you should expect much sympathy. From the time they signed the big three you've rubbed it everyone's faces and allowed little/no room for people to not agree. You make every game the championship game again to rub people's faces in it. You make more of situations that shouldn't be (ie beating a beat up Bulls team). You need some humility as much as James/Wade does. Take the Lakers this year for example. I felt bad for some friends who are die hard fans but I can think of one member who I didn't feel bad for at all. He like you doesn't show any humility about things (no its not bodie). Just chill out man it's a game and the series isn't over.

Not that I remember. I saw every game and he may have had some off night for him but not like what James had last night.
