Anyway, I had no idea how popular Ella Purnell has apparently gotten. I'm at Megacon and thought it would be cool to add her autograph to my Trek collection, but holy crap, it's like trying to get an audience with the Pope.
Is all that really just from Fallout or am I missing something?

She also has a role in that Arcane show, and I just finished up Sweetpea that she was great in, but yeah I think it's mostly everyone's love for Fallout.

For the first time, I feel old and out of touch at Megacon. I don't recognize most of the guests. The cosplays are all alien to me. It's all anime and video games and Twlight and I look like a dinosaur by comparison. Ella Purnell and Clint Howard are the only ones here even related to Star Trek, but you wouldn't know it from how their booths are advertised.

"Many" is intentionally vague. That's why certain politicians love to say "Many people are saying (insert idea here)". How much is "many"? A dozen? A hundred? It doesn't really mean anything.

Yup I'm the same. I have no idea who the heck most of these video game characters are that HT and other companies are releasing figures of now. That's the one thing from my childhood that I actually outgrew. 😁

Wait, I forgot! She was also in Yellowjackets, which I've seen and love.
I actuality think it's a much better show than Fallout. Not that I think Fallout is bad, I actually like it a lot, but I think Yellowjackets is damn near a masterpiece. Especially that first season.
Also, she really, really elevated Prodigy for me. If I'm only going to have one person's autograph to represent that show in my collection, I'm glad it's hers.
 
To a certain degree you are right that TOS was socially progressive for its time. But it presented the issues with reason and with the lack of inherent vulgarity and self importance that you see now. These issues were not a permanent fixture of the show to stain it. Yes, prejudice and hate and injustice were addressed in some episodes. These stories were comparatively balanced, not in your face ostentatious, and they didn't consume the story and the series as a whole. There were stories, some with lessons, about the dangers of hate and other things, but they were across the board: prejudice, fascism, greed, war, impetuous passion, impetuous youth. But TOS didn't assault you with the glorified and obstinate line-up of characters, who are more caricatures, and their intractable ideas. TOS was not that. Writers and producers weren't obsessed with this stuff. Think of your favorite TOS episodes and why you like them. Think Ellison, Sturgeon, Matheson, Coon, Sohl, Bixby, Fontana, and of course Gene whose finger had to dip in all the scripts. Of course many of these scripts were imperfect. But these talented people were mainly great story tellers not sociologists with agendas.

DS9 and Voyager presented the next "progression," pun not intended, and the beginnings of the slow inversion of this pyramid of social sanity, and I think there were signs of it even in some of TNG.

LOL well I had a reply then I read the other posts, never mind. That's what I get for not checking the board for a few days.

I'll just add that what I think most people blame on "wokeness" is really just poor writing. There are modern programs that have great messaging like Star Trek, but are well written and don't have people complaining about the program being to "woke". For All Man Kind on Apple TV is a great example.

I have a theory with no real proof to it. Since convention now a days are done by these big companies, I think some sign actors to contracts with guaranteed money. Creation entertainment is always doing Cons with Trek actors, some are exclusively Trek, but some of those actors you don't see at other conventions. I'm not a Con expert I totally understand I might be wrong or lack information, it's just my limited observation.

That said, if you went to MegaCon I assume you are close to Orlando. Creation is supposed to be doing a Trek Convention in Orlando later this year. I'm looking forward to that one to get some more of my Exo 6 name cards signed.

No idea what Yellowjackets is about, but I keep hearing good things so I'll have to check it out. Especially knowing she's in it.

Yellowjackets is about a high school girls soccer team that crashes in the Canadian wilderness and is stranded for over a year. It cuts between what happened then, and what happens in the present with the adult girls who survived.
The young girl cast includes Purnell, and the older cast has Christina Ricci, Melanie Lynsky, and Juliette Lewis.

Yes I live in Lake Nona area. Didn't go to Mega this year cause I wasnt to interested in anyone. I am going to Spookala though for the Daredevil cast.

Revenue is not profit, once you subtract the expenses it tells a more honest story.

From what I've read from other sources, Discovery, Picard, and SNW had an average budget of about $8.5 million per episode, SNW may be even higher.

Let’s assume Lower Decks and Prodigy had a significantly lower budget at it $1 million per episode. Nemesis was a theatrical release with a $69 million budget, let’s say Section 31 cost $80 million.

The total budget of 65 episodes of Discovery, 30 Picard, 30 SNW (I’m including season 3), 50 Lower Decks, 40 Prodigy, and Section 31 would be $1.232 billion. You would also need to account for any advertising and marketing costs.

One can also assume the 2.6 billion is also representative of all Star Trek content (1966 to present) the article does not state that’s revenue solely on the Kurtzman era, and this is four years worth of revenue.

All in all, the 2.6 billion is not that impressive because it’s not what they’re actually netting. Paramount doesn’t seem to be doing that well which I assume is why this SkyDance acquisition is coming to pass.

Well lets just say each episode costs 5 bucks to make. By my made up imaginary numbers they made a whole lot of money.

The problem with your example is you guesstimated alot of numbers to support your view. The article also does the same.

Since these companies never really release numbers and money made, I just go by the idea that these corporation are in the business to make money, if Star Trek isnt making them money they wouldn't keep trying to make more of them. DISCO came out in 2017, if DISCO was a failure and new Trek overall is a failure then a company looking to make money wouldn't keep making new content 8 years later.
