ECTO-1

Alright, I got a very nice response back from a 1:6th car customizer from One Sixth Warrior about making an Ecto-One for us.

The more people who are in for one, the cheaper it would be. We also have a choice between museum quality re-production (real expensive but drool worthy) or a more simplified version. Let me re-post his E-mail, them we'll talk some more:

Thank you for contacting me and yes I don’t post a lot, most of my work goes to private collectors that don’t want their commissioned items displayed, I have make all types of item from figures to scaled models to too many thing to name from Singapore, all over the States, Germany, England, Norway, and Japan I do good work its just private most of the time. So, I should be able to make a 1/6 Ecto-1.

I was looking at gbfans.com at some detailed photos of there Ecto-1 and I would most likely make one that looked very much like the real one; I would make it to be a museum quality piece, but to make something like this it would take time and cost would be high because of all the detail. Cost would come down depending on how many people would be willing to commit to ordering one. Or I can make it a little lower on detail if wanted.

If you look on OSW I have some photo of two Japanese tanks when they where completed one sold for $7000 and the other $12000. I wish I could show you them completed but the private collectors do not want them shown.

A Ecto-1 wont cost as much, but I would first need you to see how much someone would be willing to pay for one and how much time would they wait to get one and please keep in mind I don’t find item to use in my projects I make everything and will be of the highs quality.

I posted all the details there so for you Ghostbusters fans with better jobs than the rest of us (damn you!), maybe you'll want to go for the museum quality replica (droooooool!).

But for the rest of us, I was thinking if we got as many potentially interested names as we could on a list here, say we got 20 or 30, and asked for a simplified kit for us, how cheap we could get a kit to make it more affordable to everyone here?

If we had 30 people, maybe we could get a simplified kit less than $500? This thread is to take potentially interested names and start the dream list to give to him.

I'd love to get something like this but my budget won't allow for it at present.
I hope there's enough intrest for it to go ahead as I'd be intrested to see how it turns out.

As much as i'd love the GB's on display with Ecto1, Like Craw says it would be very hard to buy this with all the pre-order stuff literally on the horizon.
Kudos for trying to get this project off the ground though! Lets see some takers now...Ghostbusters is one of THE untapped franchises begging for the 1/6 treatment.

Oh my god.... no... no... i shouldn´t--- no.... grrrrrrr... ok ok . I´m in. Coun´t me in... i don´t think i´ll need this kidney any more.:rotfl

I may be in for one.

Here's a thought , maybe the price could come down if we..collectively ( and people more skilled in miniature modeling than I )..lol , could make/mold/offer the roof/rack components, or electronic kits maybe ??? Some here Ive noticed could do decals..
That way we get the base car from this guy and paint, detail it ourselves, possibly making it more affordable ??

What do you guys/gals think ??

Just thinkin out loud :duh

I would DEFINATELY make the investment for one of these...at least a couple thousand if it had all the bells and whistles, ie: working lights and siren. Would be nice if there was chrome, too!

But, YES...I am interested.

Well, here is mine, i´m customizing this one, it´s getting there but it´s taking me a lot of money and man hours... hope it´s all worth it. I´ll open a topic for this project alone.:chew

Tell me what you think:naughty

At least it is a car... :lol

wheels look good, front isnt that off but you will need to make it longer, completly rebuild at least the back, the middle and parts of the front... Do not know if it is maybe easier to start without a base. I was searching for a good base too without any success now but I agree, that this is propably the best one you can find... It will be hard and interesting. Keep us informed!:joy

You guys are insane. You realise for twelve thousand dollars you can just build your own real functioning 1:1 lifesize Ecto-1. And I'm not joking, you buy the roof kit from someone in the community, then get an old ambulance for about $8,000, and restore it yourself.

"Everybody can relax, I found the car. Needs some suspension work and shocks. Brakes, brake pads, lining, steering box, transmission, rear-end. Also new rings, mufflers, a little wiring."

Dude it was a hurst, wasn't it?

Back in the day, hearses and ambulances were made from the same car design, except for the fact that ambulances had handles on the inside of the doors and hearses didn't. I knew someone who owned both a '69 and a '71 hearse.

I am curious how much it would cost to scan an existing model, scale it to 1/6 size and have it printed out on a 3D rapid prototyping machine? It could be printed, cleaned up, and cast as many times as needed.

Well, you´re right guys, it´s going too be hard work, and it´s been the last 2 weeks, working here and there, i´m rebuilding and reinforcing everything. Turns out, this car had the doors molded in, they don´t open, i guess mathel realized litle girls just slided the barbie in. I´m cutting the doors, to make them open so my 12 inc figure can fit. Te good thing is that it can hold 4 ghostbusters.
