I was wondering if anyone knows a company that makes glass display case such as this?

It's created by a Italian brand called tonellidesign and it's EXACTLY the type of display case that I want, every inch.

However because it's an Italian brand based in Italy it's sort of out of my reach. I was wondering if anyone knows a company in the states that does sell something like this?

Looks like a cross between the construction of a Detolf and a cantilever support. I can't be sure without higher resolution images, but this is what it looks like to me:

The back has slots for the shelves - I'm not positive how the top shelf is held in place, but my guess is it's drilled in all four corners - at the back the screws/bolts go into the "wood" back.

At the front there will be a metal rail from top to bottom at each corner, which is fastened to the base and at the top goes through holes in the top glass and is bolted in place (like the Detolf).

The metal rails have supports on them to help to hold up the front corners of each shelf. The hinges are the same design as IKEA's and grip the door and slide into holes at the base and top.

I could make this pretty easily, but it might take me a couple of prototypes to get it 100% perfect. If you're willing to pay the custom price, you can probably find local cabinet makers that will make this design for you.

Those are perfect. Exact kind of design I'm hoping to get when we move. For the price, I'd definitely go with pixel's advice and get these custom built. Can't be more expensive than retail + shipping. Plus, then you can ensure there is space enough for some of the bigger pieces like Iron Monger, ED-209, vehicles, etc.

Wish you lived by me so that I can have one made from you for commision. :(

Found closer looks of it but yikes $2500? Hopefully I can find a local cabinet maker.

What would you say is a fair price for the design of the bigger one?

Nice - and I can see more reasons for a premium price. Thick glass, dado cuts in the glass, more holes, very precise construction.

And if you think about it, it's the price of say 8 - 10 HTs (or 2 or 3 high-end customs :monkey4). We collectors in general tend to skimp on the display cases, it seems. What do you ballpark it'd cost to get made custom, pixel? Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm guessing not much cheaper than retail but it'd be nice to have it made to measure.

What would you price it at Pixel if you made one yourself?

Also I'm not too certain but it looks like there's a LED strip installed where the glass shelf slides into the backboard illuminating the shelf.

How much would you personally charge if you made a display like this but more simplified? Thinner glass, no LED.

It really depends on the glass supplier, IMO. I've seen prices in here recently of $30 for a Detolf shelf that might be $5 elsewhere. $500 for some glass panels that I picked up from my supplier for $170, etc.

I'm pretty sure it could be less than $2500, but you'd also need to find someone who has experience in this kind of construction, including custom veneered panels. It could easily be more too, if everything's a miss. At the end of the day it's probably going to end up being a logistics problem to solve. The right people in the right place.

The LED lighting is the most insignificant cost contributor of the whole project, both in terms of materials and labor. ;) I don't build furniture for a living, so I wouldn't be able to give an estimate for my time. Someone who does this kind of design frequently can build much quicker than someone who doesn't. You should probably take any material costs, double them and then account for time, which can vary wildly both in terms of hours and in $/hour.

Yeah, I think I'd do a lot of research and preliminary work and settle on a good cabinet maker. For the price, I wouldn't buy these stock since the shelves are fixed and not much more clearance than a Detolf (15.34" between shelves and 14.56" deep), so bigger figures like Hulk, Monger and General Grievous either cannot fit or would be really cramped. Didn't realize that bigger unit is also only 39.37" wide, so you'd be looking at two or three before everything's done (for most collections). For a display that large (say 9' - 10' across, over two or three units), no question one could get it made cheaper and with some nice customization to boot. Love how they lit the shelves, though. That's something I would definitely want to incorporate into a custom build. Very clean looking.

Thanks for posting about these, btw, Hologram. The overall design is perfect.

Hologram have you ever considered doing a dual Detolf mod? (Combining two Detolf's into one large 2 door unit very similar to the one you have pictured in your OP.)

I have but it doesn't look as "clean" as this does. Which is why I love it so much. I'm also not handy when it comes to working with furniture and putting them together. I imagine modding two detolfs together would be a hassle for even me. Is there a tutorial around for that mod?

I know the exact feeling, I'm not Mr Home Improvement either but lately I've been trying. And the cost of 2 Detolfs + some matrerials is way less than a cabinet that size cost elsewhere, unless you get really lucky such as finding a going out of business jewelry shop or something. Here's a web link for a tutorial:

Where would I have to go to get a custom sizes wood board? I might just try and grab two detolfs and make a display case similar to the one posted on the first page. However I would need custom sized wood board for the back, top and bottom platform.
