i don't know much about factory paint or the manufacturing of the 1/6 scale, but it seems there are countless people i've read on this board that are unhappy with their 12 inch figures from sideshow, and not as much from other companies like medicom and hot toys. from what i've seen, the sideshow figures don't look bad at all. is there that much difference between each one made? are these hand painted on an assembly line or done by machines?

as far as I know, most 1/6 figures are mixed painted. parts done by machine, and parts paint by hand. (details like eye, mouth etc.)

As for medi and HT, they seem to have simpler paint op in general, so I guess less complex paint op gets less paint issues. Most of medi and HT are molded in that particular color for skin tone, then eyes and lips etc gets painted by hand.

factory problem aside, I do feel that SS's loves to do proto with a nice paint op that are impossible to replicate with the price they are charging is a bit annoying. Its like showing to customers that their product can be better, but are not.

Right, HT and Medi mold a head in flesh color and then just paint in the details. SSC heads are fully painted. They are hand done, but frequently metal masks are used so one girl plops on the mask and sprays white and the mask makes sure the white only goes on the eyes. The next guy might have a mask that's just for the eye pupils, and so on down the line. Whereas the polystone pieces are hand painted in a more traditional fashion.
