I'm not here to bash, but what makes the gameplay so appealing? I never played Gow 1 or 2 and I just played the GoW 3 demo. The graphics and environments are amazing, but it just feels like a hack and slash to me. Is there some depth with the controls that I'm missing because I only played the demo?

there is tons of combinations and awsome god powers to kill your foes.
people usually just smash buttons and dont learn the amazing moves kratos can do.

once you master your attack moves you can switch from wepons an exterminate your foes with devastating combos.
launch the guy in the air, hit him 20 times, swing him arround then rip him in half.
pure awsomeness.

all 3 games are amazing.

^Thanks. I'm just on the fence about picking this up since I haven't played the older games. Everything I've read is positive though so I'm sure it won't be a disappointment.

If you've played games like Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden before and liked them, I'm pretty sure you'd enjoy God of War. It's a hack-n-slasher, but it's among the top tier and the gameplay has a lot of depth. There's also a smattering of puzzles and platform jumping thrown in for variety.

Asking what makes it so appealing is like asking a fan of shooter games why they think shooting a bunch of stuff over and over so appealing.

Got the game today and boy howdy I'm loving it

I'm currently up to Aphrodite's Chamber (I smell a sex game approaching lol)

The combat in GOW3 feels a heck of a lot better than in the previous two titles, it feels smoother, funner and more refined.
I'm loving switching on the fly and all the weapons/items available

Seems like time has just gone so quickly today

On my first Play through on Titan Mode (Hard difficulty Setting, and hardest available to begin with) can't wait too unlock the hardest difficulty.

just beat the game right now and all i got to say is...wow very satisfying ending.

so i know there is not going to be another god of war game featuring Kratos but it seems like they have another demi god from Zeus is line to Gaia where he says "you should have pick the other one" and i guess Athena's power explains why Kratos was able to kill all the Gods even if he wasnt the God of War anymore

ok now to tackle this game on the harder difficulty level and download those extra costumes

and i think this is game of the year :rock:rock:rock

dam 4am again.
I will continue some more tomorrow.
zeus ! the end is near.

PS: dont let your kids play this game.

Started playing the game late Tuesday night and I'm already about 9 hours in (hope it doesn't end too soon!). I have NEVER before put this many hours into a game so quickly. The game just flows so perfectly from one awesome thing to the next, I don't want to put down the controller. Definitely the most fun of the three IMO. AMAZING!

I think the "other" person who he's referring to is Kratos's brother he actually grew up with. I don't recall his name, but I think he's floating around somewhere in Hades, and has been mentioned by the creators a few times. They talk about him a good deal in a short video in the PS3 God of War Collection.

say what :horror now im going to have to really pay attention see if its true

Great game and sets the bar AGAIN for epic conflicts. I can't believe some of the scale of these battles! It's amazing! I had a hard time putting it down because it was fun all the time!

Yeah, the "hack-n-slash" mixed with puzzles is typical of this genre. But if you're unfamiliar with it, God of War introduced the "mini-game kills" back with GOW on the PS2 in which you press certain button combinations to initiate a unique kill sequence. For example, after getting a Mintotaur enemy's health down low, a "Circle" will appear above his head so you press that button, Kratos headbutts it over and then tries stabbing his blades down its throat in which you have to keep pressing the circle button as well. To my best knowledge, God of War was the first game to introduce this a lot of games have copied it since (ex. Dante's Inferno)

I know this thread is all about GOW III but I just wanted to state that I am finally playing GOW I and it has lived up to the hype! I am about halfway through and it's just great gory fun! I bought this in the GOW collection for PS3 as well as GOW III. I am impressed with how good an old PS2 game looks when upgraded to 1080p. I can't wait to get a look at GOW III but I will not even put it in the system until I finish the other two.

Sorry that I really have nothing to add to all the GOWIII discussion. I just wanted to say that you can add one more fan to the GOW series.

I know this is about GOWIII, but Dantes Inferno is crap unstylized, stiff crap. You wanna play a good GOW clone, check Darksiders.

I have to say that GOWIII is probably the best looking game Ive seen. I finally got to start playing last night and yeah the opening into the first few battles is just amazing!!!

GOD III is fantastic fun...though the wife was not too happy about the sex scene and the 2 chicks watching it...and me tapping the buttons to keep it going :)

it wasnt bad but i do agree that it could have been better. i bought it to kill time before GOWIII but couldnt finish it because i kept on hitting wrong buttons thinking it was GOW style (kept doing magic when i wanted to block) and just wasnt into the story so i trade it in when i picked up GOWIII

As for Dantes inferno I kept doing the same thing...thikning of GOW, but then I picked up Darksiders to wait for GOWIII and wow pleasantly suprised at how good Darksiders was a fantastic game. I actually at one poitn said this story is better than God of war, then playing GOWIII last night I easily took those words back. Kratos is still king.
