Just saw this at BBTS for anybody that has the money. I realize what it is supposed to be, a copy of the Kawakita statue, but the description says that it is the most accurate Godzilla sculpt available. I can't even tell what year it's supposed to be. 54? Anybody?
Picked up a few new toys. Really love the Jakks Big G. I modded some of his spikes to be larger. Also filled in all the gaps and seams as well. (mouth, arms, legs, screw holes, 2nd to last tail gap) then repainted and coated with a finish. No articulation except for the tail hinge now but I'm fine with that after how he turned out.
Picked up this guy too, love how evil he looks
Zillafan--could you post some more pics of your modded Jakks Godzilla. Its superb. I really want to do the same with mine but I want to get the Art of Destruction book first so I can get some good, clear pics of Godzilla and all of the details/features of the design. Did you use Aves sculpt to lengthen the spines?
For that price? I'll pass. Especially since it doesn't look all that great.
Nice custom work!
I have a couple more pics on my phone I can post (at work now) As far as how I made the spikes, I really just built them up from the existing ones then sort of made them come to a couple tips at the top. I didn't really reference anything, it was kind of impulsive to just dig in haha. I'm not experienced with clay at all. Still may do a few more on the sides when I get some time and think out the est to make them pointier. Also tempted to beef up his teeth.
I used a generic Sculpy type clay for the spikes that doesn't get totally hardened in air (baking clay), but it stiffens enough so that it literally feels just like the originals. I also put a few layers of Mod Podge on them then paint, which also made them stiff, then just used a clay tool to add some creases and stuff. Touching them you can hardly tell they are a different material. I used a hard forming silicon to fill the legs and arm gaps and prevent them from moving, then just left enough space to work modeling clay in. Miliput would probably be great for this but the stuff I used did the job and was cheap.
This is what I used to fill all the gaps, holes and seams. Air drying clay, then a few more coats of mod podge and paint makes it really strong.

Again I'm a noob, but it was easy enough and I think it came out pretty cool. Definitely post yours when you get around to it!
Made a couple smaller at first:
Covered in Mod Podge
This is also when I had painted him more of a green, but ended up redoing him much more grey. I'm color blind so getting it right is kind of a crap shoot lol
Thanks! No kidding about that figure. It's really kind of annoying how expensive Godzilla stuff is. I don't mind paying more for quality work, but 3000.00 for something like that is just ridiculous. I know Godzilla is hot right now and that doesn't help, but there's just a lot of stuff that's way overpriced.
