I agree with your sentiments exactly. It's a polarizing suit but when that fully captures all sides of the 70's Godzilla if you know what I mean. Especially knowing the backstory of King Kong vs Godzilla and how Godzilla wasn't even supposed to be in it and how the two were portrayed like two sumo wrestlers by the media at the time doing interviews and all. This film started a wonderful trend for Godzilla films, it was the turning point. They couldn't keep going being as sinister as the '54 film and even if they tried they wouldn't have ever really been able to recreate that level of performance. They ad to branch the series out, and this film made the series more fun and trendy. Not to mention it has one of the best Godzilla battles ever, and most unique.
King-Goji has one of the best profiles ever, i agree. But from the front, he looks so happy and pudgy, it's hard to imagine that Sakai's Godzilla 2000 design stemmed from that costume in any way. But it has so much character. It's funny, the standard original release '62 had plain eyes, than the Ric had the more accurate, deeper colored eyes, and now this one looks (to me) a mix between the two). I like that they nails are so white. In the film, I always remember the scene where he's wading to shore and the military is waiting to greet him and I always recognize how starkly white his nails were in that shot.
