SPOILER REVIEW

OK lets get the good out of the way. The inner child was literally grinning ear to ear with the monster action. I found it very well done, bordering on artistic at times. Hearing that TOHO theme, well lets just say, sometimes we get a glimpse back at what it feels like to be a kid again. I got that a few times watching this, but that theme really got to me. My daughter said she looked over at me during Ghidorhah's birth scene and she said I was grinning ear to ear. It was well filmed, decently acted and had some nice locations and variety to the color pallets.

The monster story was much more interesting than the human side of things, which is where this film really falls apart...

Now, I didn't exactly HATE the human side of things, actually I found certain arcs to be very good....but what it needed was SERIOUS editing, and perhaps totally jettisoning of a few arcs. Serizowa story was actually really good and should have been the focus of the films human side. The kid and her parents story was bad, not quite Transformers bad but close. I felt more connection to Vivvians death than anything of the new characters. same for Serizowa. And honestly, what was that kid really there for.......we all know it was for draw from Stranger Things....clear and present Holloywood marketing. You could almost here studio execs saying they would never do this film without and anchor actor to "draw people in". What a mistake that call is in EVERY single film that uses it. Kyles' character was typical Daddy saves the family garbage. I think I might do a fan edit of this film, and cut out about 30 minutes. I did like the twist with the Mom, but they should have had the father die in the beginning, and make the story strictly about the Mother / Daughter relationship.

And ...the plot holes......my god....I have not seen so many in recent memory. How does Millie character know how to operate a sound board in a MLB park? And hey lets just leave the major plot device (the Orca) laying around without any guards? Please....and how about all those conveniently indestructible vehicles our hero ride/fly in? Crap is blowing up everywhere....but not with the main cast in it.....that stuff is titanium.

And my god Hollywood, not every film needs cars driving down the street dodging stuff blowing up. It that in a union contract somewhere?

And ....we do not really need to shoot for the low hanging fruit with bad comic relief. Bradly Whitford's character was a total waste.....I was waiting for someone to say "AWWWWWWE SNAP" after his lines.

Also , these Characters seem to teleport from one location to another....WTH? Planes to Submarines to City to Desert...with Zero time scale. It was jarring how many places they went in this film, seemingly in about 15 minutes. On that note, what with all the future tech? The first one was grounded in our reality for the most part (HALO jumps are real) this one was like a Sci-Fi flick. I do not , on face value, have an issue with that, but give us a ten second explanation that some serious time has passed and governments have been working night and day developing new tech to combat against the titan threat...I guess it is implied.

Unfortunately irresponsible YouTubers ruined to big surprise at the end, Burning Godzilla...wish I had not seen that thumbnail ON THE HOMEPAGE OF YOUTUBE......seriously ...screw you video bloggers and screw you YT.

While that may sound like alot to rag on, its not all that distracting , because just as you start asking these very questions your eye are back feasting on some great Kaiju action.
But in the end...Long Live the King

As a side note. My theater was 1/2 full....on a Friday at 3:00.....and school is still in session here. More interesting, There was a crowd of people waiting to get into the next showing.

I agree with your criticisms xipotec but didn't want to list them all out like you did. The main characters had plot armor a mile thick and that indestructible flying fortress and underwater base were right out of GI Joe compared to G14's real world military hardware.

But in retrospect all those giddy monster moments are what my mind keeps going back to so I look forward to seeing it again.

That sucks that Burning Godzilla got spoiled for you.

For me, the tech in this movie felt no more futuristic than Super X showing up in Return of Godzilla. As adults, our first instinct is to go how is this possible, but as soon as it’s in the thick of action, you just enjoy it and leave plausibility behind. The Argo was awesome, especially the Mexico sequence.

I really wish they hadn't killed off Sally Hawkins. She was my favorite character and it would've been cool to see her take over a leadership role in Monarch in the next film. Serizawa's sacrifice would've probably had more impact if she was there for it as well.

I want to agree but it wouldn’t have worked.

A core protagonist had to be killed by KG but maybe make her death take place after Serizawa.

Dude no need for spoiler tags lol

Oh, okay. I remember xipotec asking for spoiler tags a few days ago, so didn't want to step on any toes.

I'd sacrifice Eleven and her family along with all other members of Monarch to Ghidorah if I got to keep Sally Hawkins.

I'm cool with the Godzilla tech machines in this one. It's a nice callback to previous entries in the series. Better than them following him in a boat like the last one.

Yeah anyone who's still waiting to watching it "the third week it's out" will be waiting for the blu-ray, lol.

:lol :lol

Did anyone catch the maser canon Easter egg on those underwater canons? I hope we get a full blown action sequence in GvK featuring those.

Yup bad ass!

I wish we had gotten more of Godzilla and Ghidorah fighting underwater, that’s like the one type of fight we haven’t gotten yet, but one frequently appearing in Toho films.
