I recently moved and left behind a dvd player I can no longer find. I have some home videos on dvd-r that I would like to play, and play clearly.

I bought a samsung dvd player that is making the dvd-r's very gritty. SO I went out and bought a second dvd player (sony) that says it plays dvd-r's. Well that too is gritty and it just makes it very hard to see the screen.

Anyone here know of an affordable dvd player that will play dvd-r's without fail?

I have a Philips DVP 3010 among others. I never had any problems with playing DVD-R on this one. It wasn't to expensive when I bought it. About € 50,- ,but that was a couple of years ago.

The cheaper the better. The more expensive ones seem to have a hard time playing the DVD-r's.

That's actually what my father said to me last night. He buys cheap ones and they work great! So I guess I'll try that first and see how it goes. :)

They also sell a "Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player", which you hook a External Hard Drive up to and play the files on the drive onto your TV. So If you download movies such as .avi you dont have to convert to DVD. The "Media Player" hooks up to the TV thru HDMI or component. Its only $99 @ Amazon, bestbuy sells them to.

But as far as DVD players, playing DVD-R. What a pain, I dont know if the "burning program" or DVD-R brand matters but its usually hit or miss with me.

LOVE Oppo. My Oppo will play all my DV-R, but it more the software you are using to burn your DV-Rs, than the player. If I burn my DV-Rs using DVD Shrink, Oppo has a problem with it. But if I use Nero, it works great.

Yeah I don't use Nero ever. I have used DVD Fab forever though.
