Anyone else check this out last night? I know it's based on a Brit show, but I haven't seen the original.

I like the mood, and some of the acting. But the plot is losing me, since it seems like the cops are really, really, really bad at their job. If I'm going to watch a mystery, the protagonists can't be outright idiots to allow the mystery to be silly and obvious. They cops here aren't even asking obvious questions, and at times not seem to even be interested in questioning key people. Some thoughts...

Seriously, the kid's best friend isn't questioned even after hours of the killing? Yea, they're 12...but his best friend was killed, you'd think you might have a question or two for the person most likely to know his habits. The ME tells you he was killed by a single blow to the head, and no one asks about murder weapon, height and strength of the killer, or any other detail? Seriously? And when the supposedly smart cop from the outside actually acts surprised and pats the local cop on the back for pulling surveillance footage? Isn't that pretty much a no brainer? It seems pretty obvious at the start that the kid was killed either because he saw something he wasn't supposed to, or he's mixed up with some bad people that didn't want him to talk. And of course, the cut fence at the beginning matters. If things start to turn out to be that obvious and there isn't something more to this, I'll be done. If they can manage a few surprises, I'll hang around.

The first episode was pretty much beat for beat with the first episode of Broadchurch, so it lost a bit of it's impact on me, but they say it'll become it's own thing as it goes. If it's half as good as Broadchurch though, it'll definitely be worth sticking around. I'll have to get used to David Tennant's American accent though, it's so high pitched and nasally.
