Graphics better than forza 3? Yeah alright if you like cardboard trees and 800 cars that look like they came from Gt 4 on the ps2.

What else do we need?

Good multiplayer, good campaign/career mode, rankings, interface and menus that aren't clunky and awkward, loading screens that don't take forever (even with a 10gb install), etc etc

That's what the reviews are saying.

You haven't even played the game! Come on, you're almost like a cliche, man.

.

Only thing out of that list I really need would be a good career mode since that is the only thing I really play. As long as it is similar and not too far off from GT4 then I am set.

I'm picking up my copy of GT5 later today. I have Forza 3 in my collection. WE SHALL SEE! Well, I shall see.

Why would I need to play it to see how it looks. I've seen it on a 40 inch panasonic LCD at the shop and it looked dated.

What I remember from Forza 3 is that it's colors were amplified moreso than real life. I think Gran Turismo 5 is going for more muted tones, like in real life.

Seeing a lot of screen grabs and comparisons of the two games already, I think it's fairly obvious that GT5 has better looking cars. I'm not ready to say which game has better looking racing tracks though. I was really smitten with the city tracks in Forza 3.

Wow Sony need s to back to school to learn how to tell time. So I get ready to play, it says you shouild install it, ok, wow 20 min, ok. Come back about 25 min later and it still got 15 min left, WTF????? Come back 20 min later 1 min left, about time its done, the countdown from 10 seconds starts, wait no you must wait longer it hit four seconds and was on 4 seconds for just under 3 minutes WFT?????

I picked up GT5 today and Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Wii, for some awesome old school challenging platform gaming.
Sadly, I played GT5 for about 15 minutes when I realized not much has changed and I don't have the time or patience like I used to, to grind through endless races with low budget cars just to get the premium cars etc. Not only that, like many have said - it just felt like I was playing and looking at a PS2 version upscaled to 1080P. There are some highlights and tracks and cars that do look great. But overall it felt and looked a little lifeless. It's the ultimate driving simulator for sure. But wrapped up in a mediocre design.

On the flip side, DK Country is a blast right now. :dunno

So, I managed to play a few hours (40 minute install time not included), and...it's Gran Turismo. Being someone who's casually enjoyed GT since GT2 on the PS1, GT5 felt instantly familiar, for both good and bad. The license tests are still so ____ing difficult. B-5!!!!!!!!! ____ YOU!!!

I started out with a Civic R (I'm a traditionalist). I noticed that there are a large number of cars that look pretty bad. I mean, they look like PS2 model cars placed onto the PS3. The ugly ones are labeled 'Standard' while the ones that look like they belong on a next-gen console are labeled 'premium'. Will have to look into this. I also noticed that the game looks much better in photography mode and in replays than it does during gameplay.

The framerate at 1080p is really inconsistent. I'm thinking about lowering it to 720p to see if it improves. I'm liking the game so far, but it's not really that exciting since it feels so familiar.

They cars look a lot more life like in GT5 then Forza 3.

200 of the cars might look a bit better than Forza 3's 400 Great looking cars but 800 look like crap and don't have cockpit views. Considering all of Forza 3's cars have cockpit view and all look excellent I think its fair to say overall Forza 3 wins in this department. 5 years development time and they only came up with 200 new cars models. That is shoddy.

Hmm, I was gonna go get GT5 tomorrow but all these 'issues' is turning me away. For a game that is five years is development, this game is certainly lacking in a lot of areas.

How bad looking is the standard car? I always felt that the cars already look really fantastic in PS2 so maybe they are not that bad actually?

The framerate being not solid 60fps is really bugging me. I can accept this in some games but it is unacceptable in a racing game for me where every miliseconds count.

Maybe I should get Black ops instead.

I was going to pick this up. NFSHP has really got me back into racing games and I've been craving a realistic one all this week but GT 5 is a dissapointment from what I've seen and heard from other gamers.

Really, I got Silver on 3rd try, (first time I didnt DQ). I have gold on 4 of the 5 I have tried and didnt spend to much time on them either.

I made a few attempts at gold, and shaved few tenths off, it seems completely doable to me.

I can see what some reviewers are saying, navigating is kinda clunks but in the little time in car i cant complain to much.

I noticed your wheel is on sale for 100 bucks on Amazon right now.

Got my code for the Mercedes SLS Stealth car and that sob can fly.

I am getting my game now on the 26th. Amazon wrote me an email stating that they are sorry for the delay in getting the game out on time, so they are going to refund my shipping. A whole 99 cents. At least it is better than nothing. :)

I have played every GT game so far and I love the racing style, but I am not going to give my opinion of the game until I have played it awhile. I really don't believe in most of the reviews by these video game sites. I think everybody will have there own opinion if they like it or not. So, if you are not going to buy it, because you have seen some poor reviews. I say rent it. At least give the game a shot. If you don't like it then you just saved some money. Use that money saved and buy a collectible. I have noticed that I have liked games that were given a very low score on these review sites. So, I know for a fact that I can't go by some of these. If I took everything as the truth I would definitely be missing out on a lot of good games that didn't make the cut by their standards.

Wow. I'm surprised to keep reading about the graphical problems this game has in many gamer's eyes. I would like to think that this game is worth the money, but hearing that some "standard" cars look worse than the "premium" super cars is kind of weak IMO. Depressing that the long development for this game doesn't seem worth it from what I've been reading.
