Great comic book covers

I had the first printing of the Wolverine trade (not that a first printing mattered, it was a trade) with that art on a white background. A piece of adhesive tape accidentally got on the cover, and when I peeled it off, I stripped off some of the artwork. ERGH!

Loved Mike Zeck's cover's, and that Michael Golden cover to G.I. Joe Annual #2 was awesome, as was the artwork inside. HIs run on The "Nam was great as well.

Yeah I really loved that series until the final (thankfully) unfinshed story arc. The Shadow and Shiwan Khan as Rock'em Sock'em Robots!

You know, I always considered Black Widow a Daredevil character more than an Avenger one. Didn't realise how much so till I was flicking through some covers after enjoying Jessica Jones.

This BWS has always been a standout for me.*********************************************

Oh, now I get why, Daredevil & Blackwidow were the original Marvel Team-up lol!
Actually quite interesting how they cycle the villains and cameos through different runs of writers and artists.
The Owl and Bullseye, Spidey and Punisher....

Yeah, I was never really impressed with BWS as a writer, but as an artist he has a very unique style. Great lines and use of color. I liked his Weapon X stuff:







Another artist I thought did amazing covers but wasn't really impressed by his sequential skills is Bill Sienkiewicz.

I really didn't care for Elektra Assassin but I still love the covers...they just scream mid-late 80s:






He just did a few new Daredevil covers and he's still got it:



And I always loved the cover he did for Batman 400....just spooky as hell.



And the cover of Wolverine 10, one of the all time classic Wolverine tales!



Oh, and I just remembered...he not only did the cover for the very first issue of Transformers, but he also did one much much later in the run that's just a really great image:

Wow, that new Daredevil one looks amazing!

That Transformers cover is what started me. Wolverine #10 got me into army building. It was my first duplicate. I picked up the second one in one of those grab bags.

And my first X-men was BSW...

But how about Art Adams?

A lot of artists draw what could be considered the "definitive" Wolverine....Jim Lee, John Byrne, Frank Miller...

But in my mind, NOBODY ever drew a better Wolverine than Art Adams. He's simply one of the best artists to ever draw comics that ever lived. Indisputable.



And on the topic of The Shadow from before....this isn't a cover, but a house ad for the 1987 DC Comics Shadow series, but it was the first time I'd ever seen or heard of the character. I saw this in the back of the other books I was reading, and it scared the hell out of me. This is always the first image that springs to mind when I think of the Shadow.



And the other image I think of is this cover by Mike Kaluta. I think it was from a Dark Horse book around the time of the movie?

The first issue of Iron Man I ever read, picked it up in a pile of 80's back-issues from the first comic shop I ever visited at age 11. The beginning of a long and expensive relationship...

Sienkiewicz is an artistic god. That Elektra comic is criminally underrated and the perfect distillation-cum-satire of 80's excess.

Trying to recall what else Sienkiewicz influenced me on,
I found out both him and BSW actually started me on The New Mutants.

Yeah, Secret Wars II got me into the world of Marvel but before that,
it was black Spidey from... Transformers and that (#1) was the first comic I bought.


Sorry, I'm gunna put his entire run here, coz it's just that good:

They all just scream at me. I was real young, and back then these images terrified me (in the good way that I love horror).

Lol, I found this one is by both Adams & Sienkiewicz.

Man, have they omnibused this series yet? This is one I'd want. There was something I really liked about The New Mutants and it had nothing to do with pouches.

You guys have got me on such a high just looking back at these covers. Remember those days of flipping through boxes of back issues for the ones you were missing. All we did was memorise those covers, lol.

Doom is hard to not make cool. Such a simple, iconic, yet menacing design.
