I see Mazinger/Raideen in this movie with the pilot in the cockpit attached to the mech.

Plus Raideen's long sword.

But can you really have a giant robot movie and not reference back to those classics.

If anything, the classic giant robots deserve their own live action movie.

Yeah, I think he was mostly influenced by those more classic animes. Plus live action kaiju films etc.

Aren't they doing a Mazinger film? I thought I heard that.
