I preordered this one may be hard to find at first.

Hard to find? Are you kidding? When the last one came out it was EVERYWHERE, I worked at a grocery store and they even were selling a whole bunch, they had a whole table of them there the day it came out.

Yeah but this is the last one!!!:D Yeah it probably won't at least in the stores, online may be different. But since the woman will want it bad i thought i ought to not take a chance.

I preordered the fancy pants slipcased edition. I did the same with the last book and thought it was of much higher quality than the standard version. In addition to the nice slipcase and alternate cover art, you get something like 20 additional pages at the end, featuring full page color versions of the illustrations included at the start of each chapter.

I enjoy the books, but I don't feel the need to go out and buy them the day they come out. And I really don't need a fancy pants edition. :D

I will be sleeping in the back yard if my wife doesn't get her copy on the release date.

At least you'll have a swing set full of SW 12-inch figures to keep you company.

Yes Borders has it for pre-order, but they list $34.xx while Amazon lists it at $18.xx!!! Big difference! :D

My bad! Borders has it at 40% off, but Amazon is 46% off, so Amazon is still the better deal!!!

So is that the difference between the regular hard cover and the "deluxe" edition?

Am I the only one who thinks the marketing guys should be fired for the release date? Why wasn't 7/7/07 for Book 7 good enough? It is only two weeks earlier. A situation like that doesn't happen very often.

I can only suggest any Potter fan going to SDCC this year should read FAST. I can only imagine the spoilers running around that place! I know I'll be reading it on the trip down... If my family and I go again this year that is.

There are some differences in binding/edging and in the type of paper used. But the primary difference is the additional color artwork pages, the alternate cover artwork, and the slipcase.

I remember when the last one came out that it hit while I was at SDCC. I'd ordered from Amazon for "day of release" delivery so it was sitting on my porch for a couple of days.

The packaging had Harry Potter all over it, good looking after the anonymous package Amazon!

Here's my thing. I'm dyslectic -- so I have to get the books on tape. Except I hate the guy who reads the American books on tape version so I have to get the British version which are read by Hugh Laurie's old partner in comedy Stephen Fry. But they aren't legal in the States so I have to wait until I can pick them up on eBay. Meanwhile everyone I know is talking about it or wants to. So I'll know what happens closer to Halloween. Dyslexia sucks... :monkey2

Can you not order them from Amazon UK or will they not ship them to the US?

I couldn't around the time of the Goblet of Fire... Perhaps things have changed? :D

You know an interesting point on the difference between the American books on tape (read by someone with an English accent) and Stephen Fry is that they pronounce Hermione's name wrong in them. He says it Her Me Oh Knee -- which I knew was wrong even before the movie came out.

Although some fun facts on the downside to listening to the books on tape, I thought the annoying House Elf's name was Creature and that Sirius Black was Serious Black.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is available on HD DVD in the UK and not the US--but I know of many people who have ordered a copy from Amazon UK and they delivered it to the US even though it was clearly not a region 1 release and is not sold in the states. I hope you can get it!! It's worth the trouble to get Stephen Fry reading it.

Thanks! Yeah, Stephen Fry is great. I had a whole Harry Potter media black out thing for the last one which annoyed my girlfriend who really, really wanted to talk about Dumbledore and Snape.

My wife and I have read each book together, but I will be leaving town for a week the day after it comes out and I don't think she is going to wait for me.

I love Stephen Fry's reading, but I think Jim Dale is equally good! I can't believe you don't like him. I believe last time it took quite awhile after the book was published for the UK audiobook version to be finished.

I will always enjoy Jim Dale since I loved Pete's Dragon as a kid.

But for something as British as Harry Potter, I would choose Stephen Fry if I had a chance.
