I got my Hellboy II PF yesterday and he's gorgeous. Definitely the best 1/4 PF of the year. It is AWESOME!!!

10 out of 10. Quite possibly my favorite PF and I own some grails.

btw The collector that said the base isn't solid is full of poop... the thing is heavy and solid. It is definitely not hollow. Doesn't feel that way anyway. Not like the Hulk PF's base.

btw He also comes with so much more than you all think. He has like several pouches... all fabric with real buttons. A few extra crosses that dangle... BEST PF IN A LONG TIME!

Very awesome to hear. :chew

Earlier in this thread someone said they had canceled their order to help come up with the $5-$6K to pursue the PF prototype with the glowing fist offered in SS's last charity auction. Well, I'm the lucky guy who won the auction and even if it were for sale, which is not, he'd have to come up with a hell of a lot more money.

The idea for the glowing first came from the development team seeing the Hellboy II movie poster, however because the effect was never used, they abandoned the idea. I really liked their idea so after the win, I contacted SS and offered an additional donation if they would redo the fist so that it really looked like the poster. Much to my surprise, they agreed to give it a try.

Well, not surprising, they came through and the results as you can see are nothing short of phenomenal. I feel privileged that Anthony Mestes, SS's Lead Artist in their paint department personally did the actual work. This is one of those rare times that I'm at a loss for words, so I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. The modified photos are studio shots from SS.

First, trying to match poses, a photo of the unmodified figure from the auction followed by the repaint:

I think y'all will agree that they've taken a great figure and made it fantastic. I'm especially impressed at how well the "glow" shows in such bright ambient light. When I get him home, I'll be sure and post some low light photos. I think those will really show off the glow effect. I have a few more studio shots, so if y'all want, I'll gladly post them. I think this is arguably the best Hellboy figure out there.

I am really grateful for what the Sideshow staff and artists did for me. They were friendly, helpful and genuinely enthused about this project. They produce some of the finest collectibles available and they just plain outdid themselves here. My Balrog has always been my favorite, but as soon as Big Red arrives, I think the ol' Flameboy may be playing second fiddle. :balrog

There were some who posted how they felt that it wasn't worth what I paid for it until someone put it in perspective by pointing out that it was for charity. I have a simple rule for collecting. I buy what I truly like, that way if it goes down in value, it doesn't hurt so much. If it goes up, well that's just gravy. Charities, especially one like this, tend to open my wallet a little wider and I'm not too concerned about getting a deal. Most people know the old adage "give 'till it hurts," well, I did feel a little pain, but it hurt so good. :medic

As for the auction itself, after having my ass handed to me in the Giger auction, I was really concerned that I might not win this one. For the record, in the last 15 minutes of the auction, the price more than doubled. As a matter of fact, with less than a minute and half to go, folks took a hard charge at doubling the final price. When I placed my snipe, I was really relieved to see that I had the lead and then course I did the happynekkidsniperdance after I won.

SS said I should have him Monday or Tuesday. Man this weekend is going to drag. Gawd, I never thought I'd utter those words.

:rock Now that is fantastic. :rock
Congratulations. :D

Wow! Congrats on your truly original one of a kind collectible. And kudo's to SS for their willingness to re-vamp this PF for you. What an improvement to the original prototype! :drool

Thanks everybody, I've also got my EX showing at 6:33 A.M. "OUT FOR DELIVERY." Naturally today is the day he's running late :banghead. I've also got a little bonus in this shipment... Slave Leia. :naughty

Which photos do you want first?

Point taken and I can't buh-leeve that my UPS guy isn't here yet. I'm starting to wonder if he's parked somewhere with my Leia and some lotion :horror

If he is then he's lame, cause she looks like the Bugged Lady from Sector 97!

Muawahahahaha!

Hellboy is such an awesome PF!

I thought this thread could use some more pics of Big Red....so here is Exclusive number 253...

Well, while I'm waiting for brown box boy to boisterously bound in bearing my blazing booty, I'm going to finish some post responses, post some final kudos to SSC and post the rest of the studio pics.

First, Mack, your handle is very apropos considering that is one mack daddy of a Hellboy collection your have... very sweet.

It makes me jealous to see those pics because I was going to snag that statue, had the wife's permission and everything, but when I saw pics it wasn't what I expected - but it's great you got them to one-up it.

You would have tried to snag the statue ;) You had your wife's permission and everything? That makes me jealous. Had these mods been done to the statue before the auction, would you have bid? Also, we are definitely on the same page when it comes to charity, collecting and SS as a company. I agree with the others that lighting can really make piece much more special.

It's a wonderful thing when one can fulfill a personal want and a charitable need at the same time. I've been involved with Diane's charity auctions since the beginning and have done my best to keep a low profile. eBay has made anonimity quite easy since the implementation of it's disasterous SMI program, but that's a rant for another forum.

It's awesome when a collector sees the benefit in helping a charity; and even more so when the company turns around and further rewards the collector who helped the charity.

I believe that is one of the key things that makes SS so spectacular. IMO, they are one of the few companies that truly understands collectors. Most companies would have told you to take or hike or do the lighting yourself.

I couldn't agree more and this is why I came out of the closet, so to speak. SS Customer Service put me in contact with the "Right Guy (RG)," who wishes to remain anonymous. First he expressed how grateful everybody was with the bidders' participation in the auctions. They raised almost $20,000. He then listened to what it was that I wanted to do and set things in motion.

He kept me well informed as to how things were progressing. The main emphasis was testing different paint schemes to see what would work before laying any paint on the actual figure. During this period, I could hear the enthusiasm in RG's voice and he told me how the paint team was enjoying the challenge. Things got really exciting when RG told me that they were going to do it. The rest of the story is back on Page 63, Post #627, so I guess this post is a prequel ;)

I apologize for the lengthy post, but I feel that the Staff and Artists at Sideshow deserve recognition for their commitment to their Art, their customers and each other.

Before I post the rest of the studio photos, I need to clarify something. The UPS guy got here about 20 minutes ago and I think there's some confusion about the Hellboy I just got. This is not my lighted guy, he arrives next week. This is the EX PF Hellboy. Folks have already posted photos, but if you want some more, I'm game, just say the word. In the mean time, here's the Enlighted One ;)
