Are you using a HDMi cable? Is there a reason you went the component route?

Hopefully they came with instructions.

I may be wrong, but you could be mixing the Red video lead with the Red audio lead. I assume the lead is meant to carry R,G,B picture and left and right audio.

Any time you need a cable go to www.monoprice.com.

Period.

What you want is here. As long as you have an HDMI hook-up on your TV.

Okay, having said that, as far as component cable goes, you have two red plugs there, one is for audio that goes with the white cable, the other red one goes with the blue and green plugs for video.

If you can actually see an image on your screen, like your can see your PS3 XMB, you know the problem's not with your PS3. I know you have to set your PS3 to output video through component, but if you can already see an image then that's taken care of. It sounds like you're just plugging the cable in the wrong spots.

Your TV should have color-coded ports on the back, it might be hard to tell which color's which if your TV is back against the wall and it's dark, but just make sure the red and white pair go into the audio jacks, and the green, blue and red cables go into the video jacks.

Most of the time, if there's multiple sets of component jacks on the back of a TV they may be oriented horizontally or vertically, make sure you're not splitting the set of cables among two different sets of jacks.

When you get an incorrect picture, is there any audio??

Hopefully they came with instructions.
Nope.

I looked at what the 360 had and I searched for PS3 HD cables and bought what looked the same. I read the item description and it seemed to be what I needed.

Is it the wrong thing? Should I buy something else?

Better picture and sound. It runs both. I am assuming you have a HDTV with HDMi inputs. If you also have an amp/speakers the surround sound will also sound better.

step one is to look and see if your TV has HDMI ports. if it does, like Bullseye says, that is what you should be using. Component is basically JR. High def. HDMi will give you a much MUCH better picture if you can use it.

Should I still go ahead and buy the HDMi cable? Would it make the picture better?

Sorry for being an idiot with this. :monkey3

Is this what I need:
https://cgi.ebay.com/HDMI-Cable-Cor...381?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3efe66195d

or this:
https://www.monoprice.com/products/...=10240&cs_id=1024008&p_id=3951&seq=1&format=2

If your component cables are working and you're satisfied with the picture, stick with it.

All HDMI cables are the same. Having said that, get it from monoprice.

Don't consider anything else than a HDMI cable,if you have a HD TV HDMI is superior, youll notice a big difference if you test both cables.

I pretty much agree with what everyone else has said about HDMI.

If you have a capable AVR you should get at least 2 HDMI cables. One on the HDMI out from the receiver to the TV and one from the PS3 to the receiver. If you have on older HDMI receiver it might only pass through the audio so you'll have to settle with either TV volume or optical.
