I caught the end of ROTJ the other night on broadcast TV, and good lord, that “No…NOOOOOO!” from Vader in the end when he “decides” to throw the Emperor down the shaft is SO BAD. I had forgotten how bad those SE’s were. Or I blocked it from my memory to prevent long term emotional and psychological trauma.

Seriously if they had just done no CGI at all, just redder lipstick, it would've been great. Recasting is accepted all the time, and with Carrie's voice? It worked like gangbusters in Donner's Superman.

I don't know. Originally, there was a fat guy in a feathery get up that played jabba, thankfully that was cut. I don't buy the line they were going to replace that actor in post with stop motion, he didn't look anything like jabba, not even a fake tail for solo to stand on.

In the first ROTJ special edition, Vader doesn't shout when he throws the emporer in the shaft, I think that was added in 2005 or 2006 when these first showed up on DVD. I still hope we will get original films in old edition style, but I don't think it'll happen. Best you can do is download the old laserdisc.

The best alternative currently is getting the Harmy or Team Negative 1 versions. Depending if you want a cleaner picture or from the original film negatives.

They didn't even know what Jabba was going to look like in 1976 when shooting. Haven't you seen the Mosep Bineed mask marked as "Jabba", as that mask was a contender. In fact, the comics had that character as Jabba originally before they backtracked and said he was faking.

Star Wars has more retconning than the Bible.

I was fine with Tarkin all the way though then when Antilles went into the room I think I actually said out loud to myself ‘Dont turn round, don’t turn round’... I’d have been happier with just hearing the voice say ‘hope’.

This is precisely what I was thinking also. Great movie, then when they showed Leia I was thinking "don't do it, don't do it, don't do it." The camera just kept panning closer.
