I actually like the Playtoy sculpts more than the Hot Toys
there I said it
Is the face a little too round on the Playtoy sculpt?

And the paint apps is not as good as Hot Toys (from what I recall).

I bought 2 of the Play Toys sculpts but forget where I put them. It is a nice cheaper alternative for kit bashing and the Hot Toys sculpt is not perfect by any means either.

Youre talking about the Mr toy sculpt and theyre talking about the new Playtoy sculpt

Just re-watched the movie last night and noticed there are so many opportunities for figure variations for Alita, as well as other characters in the film. First and foremost variation for me would be the first body we see in the film, but it would also be great if a company made a figure similar to how her head and spine fit in her body. The HT version with 3 layers on skin across her shoulders is weird. I would love to see InArt take a crack at this license with 2 bodies and tons of accessories, or a diorama.

Also, I still have not seen a screen accurate version of her head. All of them are way off, including HT. Surprised nobody (not even high end customizers) went and made a rooted wig for the HT head, as that would have been the easiest and most acceptable solution

true, there are tons of opportunities to do some charas from the movie and the sales of the HT figure have not been really bad i guess... I like the head sculpt by HT. Sure it's not "perfect" but if you watch closely, the cgi is also often not the same and she looks different in many scenes. As for Inart, i doubt they would risk to do Alita at the moment. There have been a few customisers, who offered rooted hair for this fig (korean, chinese and italian), but i personally could not justify 300 bucks for only a straight hair wig. ^_^

Worst part is that those custom jobs can look terrible too. I’ve seen so many custom Alita’s with hair like they had an 80’s hairdo. Super big and poofy.

I’ve shown this here before. But I gave the MR. Toys wig a bit of a haircut. Used some hairwax to style it. And I’m very happy with how it all turned out. But you have to modify the hot toys head pretty heavily to make the wig fit which is the big downside.

I think the people who didnt remove that big block inside the head before putting a custom wig on top all ended up with those weird looking enormous skulls.

Looking back at some pics from the movie. I probably shouldve gone even shorter with the hair. But too scared to mess it up so I’m content for now.

The PlayToy wig is also way too long.

That is absolutely true, which would mean the CGI guys had several different models to work from, or many different CGI teams working in tandem with different models, which would be extremely difficult to create a baseline model for historical reference. I don't know how hard it would be to integrate/export some of those files or proportions into solidworks/rhino/whatever, but I find it strange that nobody can nail this sculpt

Looking at my Play Toy Alita, when helmeted, it bears a strong resemblance to the Queen Studio life size bust, this may be where Play Toy based their sculpt on

Had some fun shooting Alita and trying to get the essence of her character. Eventually, I will try to get to the Motorball version.

Hopefully a sequel! After Avatar 2’s success with it’s CGI characters/world there were some rumours about Disney wanting an Alita sequel but that was almost a year ago already.

Does anyone own this headsculpt? Would be pretty cool to turnnone of my three Alita’s into a manga version. Beware it’s a pricey head

Unfortunately, I do not have the mental fortitude for such an operation. Looking forward to your progress
I wont do it bc mine is exclusively used with the motorball helmet. But I’d love to see somebody attempt it.

Nooooooo! My worst fear came true and the suit has started to flake 😭. Hopefully it’s not too hard to find a replacement. I had her in a fighting pose for a while and the pleather seems to have melted together in certain parts.

Atleast her wig is still serving 💅
