When viewing it close and personal the paint application looks super odd:

I think we are all fine with weathering on the ROTJ version. Although many of us remember him as a shiny golden top spinning around on Endor. :)

The problem is that the orange paint doesnt makes sense. Brass has a brown Patina as it tarnishes. Not sure how HT lost sight of the prototype- but they ended up making more work for themselves.

It's the first thing I noticed about this figure and have wondered if others would just be OK with it or not.

Personally, I think that spackled paint job looks awful. It's heavy handed and even distracting. No idea what possessed them to mass produce a product that looks like that...

I understand the look they're going for but my god, who said "yeah, this looks good - ship it!"

Not sure if it's been brought up, but I wonder if using those same polishing cloths that folks used on Chrome Mando can be used here to take off some of the dirt and grime 🤔

Was wondering the same. Also the paint may not look as bad when not under the microscope. I thought chrome Mando looked fine in person.

Howard knows exactly what he’s doing.
First, give us the less desirable (but actually really awesome) aotc version
Now, a heavily weathered rotj version that is too weathered to fit with anh heroes.
Then, we will get a less weathered but still not clean anh tatooine version.
Eventually, we will get a Chewbacca with C3po backpack.
Way to play the long game uncle howie, bravo.

Hot Toys have proven their excellency at delivering a stellar gold chrome application on their figures.
Question is, why they failed us this time? Cost reduction? Lack of capabilities?

Their AOTC version is by far a superior release, sadly. I was expecting a Bandai-killer.

EDIT: Their ROTJ C-3PO does seem to be more screen accurate with current application (spotted pattern?), I wonder if it's ANH C-3PO that's living inside me brain when I envision the character..? It seems to be more chrome-y than ROTJ. Guess designers faced a dilemma: Either make it screen-accurate or nice-on-display-shiny (more prop-accurate..?).

Bottom line I am undecided about this figure.

I would say an ROTS C3PO would be the most clean and chrome-y that it would need to have the same finish as that stormtrooper they did or equal to the Bandai Tamashii finish 🤔
