Doesn't help that Kennedy fired the first directors and hired Ron Howard to refilm most if not all of it. That must have driven up costs.Solo was also pretty much in production hell, the movie cost way too much to make, almost $400 million. Not sure if thats with marketing or not.
Then fans angry about TLJ potentially taking it out on Solo by refusing to see it.
I'm also not sure how many people wanted to see a young Solo played by someone who wasn't Ford.
Personally I did go see it. At the time I didn't think much of it, in that I didn't hate it, didn't love it. Didn't feel much of anything for it.
Enjoyed it more the second time I saw it on Disney+. Don't think I'll ever love it but it's fine.
If they'd got the directors right in the first place and didn't release it next after the divisive TLJ, I think it would have done much better.
