okaaaay, took the plunge and ordered the german pfledge.
lol, hope it works for you.i can only speak from my own experience with watching it work miracles on my cars over the years.

i've seen car door rubber seals break and crumble, g-shock rubber straps turn brittle and crumble...
and i look at my ED209. :[

no luck with finding that honda grease, got the german pfledge instead. giving ed the bmw treatment.lolz

OK - here is some information on where to get products that have been mentioned, to use in preserving the rubber on ED-209 or other items. (Also posted in the other thread about ED-209)

This is current as of April 2015 and suited to people situated in Australia (I have been calling/emailing around for the past few weeks trying to find places and appropriate products).

DuPont Krytox GPL 105 (Perfluoropolyether) -
This is extremely hard to come by in Australia and is very expensive if you can buy it.

Fluid Seals
Home | Fluid Seals
Is the number one distributor of DuPont Krytox GPL 105 in Australia.
Unfortunately they only sell the product in 1Kg (yes kilograms not milliliters)
It costs AUD $725.00 + GST plus postage $15 + GST (price is also subject to availability)
Takes about 6-8 weeks for delivery

Harrison
Welcome to the Harrison Group of Companies
Harrison is a secondary supplier (they get the product from Fluid Seals)
Harrison sell Krytox GPL 105 in jars of 50g (yes grams)
It costs AUD $90 per jar + GST (delivery included)
Minimum order is two jars
So $90 x 2 = $180 + GST = $198
3% surcharge if paying by credit card
Takes about 2-4 days for delivery
Note - they do NOT deliver to private addresses or PO Boxes.

Volkswagen
Sell Krytox but only in Spray Can form
Approx AUD $92 per can
Note - I'm note sure if it is actually GPL 105

Mitsubishi, Honda, Porsche, Audi do not stock this product.

Take your chance getting the genuine product and getting it into Australia through customs.

Honda Shin-Etsu Grease -

This product has been has been discontinued in Australia.

Note - I have heard conflicting stories about whether silicon base products are beneficial vs detrimental to rubber (I'll guess we'll find out in about 10 years time if ED-209's dome is holding up or not).

Einszett 1Z Rubber Care Stick Gummi Pfledge -

This is a water based product (from Germany) that protects and preserves rubber. It also should not attract dirt and dust like grease products can.

Can be purchased in Australia. I have come across two places that sell the item.

Here are two videos about the product

Note: I have just visited and purchased two bottles of Einszett 1Z Rubber Care Stick Gummi Pfledge from the Car Care Products store in Melbourne. They are very friendly people and I warned them they may have an influx of purchases on this particular product :) They will be moving from their current bricks and mortar location in about a months time (May 2015).

Hope that helps some people out there.

nice find! It's good to know that this is already used in the toy world and I'm not just crazy. The comments in that video discuss what I have been warning about with silicone.

There will still be some people that insist silicone is ok but at least the water based Gummi Pflege info is out there now.

Well I've just tried "Einszett 1Z Rubber Care Stick Gummi Pfledge" on my cars rubber weather strips and seals first (what the product was designed for) to see how and if the product works. I have applied one coat at this stage. Will wait a few hours before applying a second coat and making any further comments.

What I would say is - if applying direct to say the rubber dome on ED-209 using the applicator on the Gummi Pfledge bottle, I would get an old ice cream lid or the like, to aid in getting the liquid onto the applicator. Inside the applicator is a fairly solid pin which you have to push up and down to release the liquid inside the bottle (and onto the applicator). Given the rubber dome on ED-209 has that rough/raised effect, then pin inside the applicator (if pushing up and down and dragging across) may catch on the rubber (I say may - it may not). So use the ice cream lid to flood the applicator with the liquid - then apply to the dome - rather than pushing up and down on the rubber dome itself.

Hope that makes sense.

Not sure of the problem here as both the gummi product and the honda product are designed for the same application. One is oil based and one is water based. :huh

Either should help preserve the rubber. The honda product is not armor-all...not even the same chemical contents.

Checked my ED, he is fine.
Bought it from the early HK batch, was in its box most of the time.
Gonna get the Gummi thingie.

So does the dome deffects because it dries?

Did a little video on the subject of hot toys rubber deterioration and while its not on ed209 I thought you guys might still want to weigh in on it.

A year later,

What happened to your ed209?

Those who used mod podge, Honda grease or gummi pfledge?

i gummi pfledged mine, its more than 3months and the dome is still holding.
gotta say, this german stuff works.lolz

Cool news everyone.
Mod podge act like a coat that protect it from outside as the others "moisturize" and penetrate more if im correct...
Mine is ok but i would like to take precautions...
Im hesitating between modpodge and gummi.
I already have some modpodge at home and used it with great success on my alien dog.
Dunno...

iirc, use honda grease or gummi pfledge if the dome is still intact.
if dome has signs of breakage, modge podge.
modge podge and HT xenos go hand in hand. restores that rubber fade and gives it more icky feel.
i could not get hold of honda grease, and wasnt sure about the cheap silicone grease available here so opted for gummi pfledge.
recommended by BMW owners.lolz
and this...

I bought MG silicone grease. My ED209 is still in the box so it’s brand new. Should be ok right?

For what it's worth, I bought Honda's Shin-Etsu Silcone Grease (08798-9013) for my still factory-sealed in shipper ED. (They're both waiting for a bigger display cabinet.)

My research – primarily powered by the fine folks of these very boards – lead to the conclusion that: if new and undamaged -> silicone grease; if opened for a while and cracked -> Mod Podge.

If you open yours before I do, feel free to share its rubber dome situation. It'd be interesting to know how the rubber is affected in a sealed unit that is opened this long after release.
