i think there may be more people that love the figure but aren't ordering because they hated the way he was portrayed in the film than any other demographic. i always went with the WOW factor when ordering anything collectible. mandarin WOWS! but i am surprised at some of the comments. :horror maybe those same people will come to their senses and appreciate the figure for what it is. hopefully before it sells out and starts going for double because of buyer regret from not ordering. :lol

I do not know about you DM, but I collect what appeals in totality, and not because a certain figure 'was selling for this and now selling for that' factor.

To each his own, but saying people would come to their "senses" after the 'price rise' does not sound logical. I believe people collect what interests them. Few do for kicks, investment, scalping, etc.; but not all fall in the said categories.

I agree. Too many people have said something along the lines of, "once it sells out, you will want it".

That isn't true for most of us. I don't buy a figure because it becomes scarce toward release, or the price goes up. I get it because I truly appreciate the work Hot Toys has done on a character I truly liked on screen.

Of course this figure is gonna sell out eventually and the price will most likely will go up, but that isn't gonna "force" me into buying one or magically liking the figure.

it may not sound logical because perhaps you misinterpreted it. allow me to explain in detail.

i've been collecting for many years and there's always one thing that there's no short of. collectors saying they regret not ordering before the price went up.

if you have no intention of ordering, this does not apply to you. only to those on the fence.

.

:monkey2:monkey2 hehe, I'm the opposite, there are figures I had and sold that I never wish I did! :gah: Those are the ones I miss.

But I understand your point, your saying to those on the fence: Hopefully they make up their mind before it sells out and the price skyrockets. That way, if in the end they ended up wanting the figure, they ordered it and aren't kicking themselves for passing it up.

While those who already made up their mind, have nothing to worry about after it sells out and skyrockets in price, because they never cared for the figure!

Needs to come with a set of pajamas from the bed scene... :)

what i should have made the poll about was...if you didn't see the movie IM3, based on the figure seen in the prototype photos, would you order? it seems too many people would not buy based on the twist. but still a fair people have voted yes (25 so far), so not a total surprise.

i still think once this is gone, many people who didn't order will want one. i may order another. :)

i have done it myself when i wasn't full on into 1/6 scale figures again. having to pay more just isn't my cup of tea. i much prefer to do a PO before sellout. :hi5:

Ah! So you're talking about the Maybe guys. Then we're good. :lol

I really wish the character was portrayed in the right way; if he was, he certainly would've sold out fast everywhere. But then again, "right' is only a matter of opinion. I just found your statement to be judgemental and a bit condescending, that's why my reply. :)

I do agree. Characterization controversies aside, I've no doubt he'll sell, possibly sooner than later, and to more fans than scalpers. I'll definitely enjoy my figure for what it is when he arrives. I'm enough of a fan of Sir Ben Kingsley to justify the purchase of what is on track to be a home run figure for Hot Toys. :)

Agreed. While I have no problem with how the Mandarin was portrayed in the film and quite liked the twist, even if I didn't like it I still would have placed my order because this figure does indeed have the wow factor. It is hands down one of HT best efforts imo. It will have major presence on the shelf.

I'm a diehard fan of the comics and did not mind - for the most part - the Mandarin's role in the MCU either. I love villains, but it doesn't bother me that the MCU has tended to place villains near last in priority as character development and universe building have taken obvious precedence above all else.

While the other MCU villains escaped being Trevorized, er, trivialized, they arguably have some faults of their own (though definitely not in portrayal). Even then, they have made for memorable characters and some fantastic figures, and I think the Mandarain will look fantastic next to all of them. :wink1:

Why would I buy a figure of a buffoon? I only want worthy movie characters on my shelf.

Annnnnd..... THIS.

I almost want to buy one on sale, so Loki, Zod and hopefully Faora can kick his *** off the shelf. It could be a team effort, like.

Hell, even Superman might join in the fun for that one.

Prediction: A year from release Mandarin's secondary market price will be close to what it retailed for. :lecture

It's a nice fig, but I just don't see demand going up with time.

Yep, either static or a drop is my guess. Not that it really matters, just I find the 'buy now or pay ZOMG $$$ later' argument overly presumptive.

Presumptive? I find it hilarious.

Do we not as collectors struggle with this all the time? the knowledge that if we don't buy now, we may pay more later? Of course we do.

But it only makes sense to drop 200+ bills if its something we really, truly want. These things are not free after all.

This figure is a joke like Indy with the refrigerator but people will order it simply because of the ridiculousness of it.

PO just because I think it looks fantastic and I really enjoyed what they did with him in the film. I love movies and it seems to me that they have become way to predictable. You pretty much know what is going to happen before the movie starts.

I loved the twist, it completely caught me off guard. It has been a long time since i was surprised like that. I personally thought it was a risky and brilliant thing to do. This is all just my opinion of course, I'm sure most of you think I am :cuckoo:

I can really understand longtime fans of the Mandarin hating what they did to him in the movie and not wanting this figure but I do not understand why anyone would care if someone else wanted to buy it.

:lecture This for me too.

I will be po this supposed 'joke' of a figure. :wave
