I've said it before and I'll say it again: it's not fair to compare the Medicom figures to what we expect from today's standard. The Medi Snake figures were the "creme de la creme" of 1/6 collectibles at the time when they were released. Just because we have Hot Toys figures now, doesn't mean that the Medi figures should be appreciated less. If anything, they're kind of like vintage Metal Gear Solid collectibles.

PREORDERED!!!! $215 each is expensive especially considering this is a multiple buy for me but I guess we all just have to get used to the fact that HT is now at or past the $200 mark.

That's a valid opinion, but I don't share your perspective. Medi figures were high end in their day (early to mid-2000s), but since then they have not held up so well in relation to the quality and detail you get with Hot Toys--a company that has continued to evolve while Medicom has remained stagnant. These are both 1/6th scale companies working on the same license and characters, and are both targeting high end audiences of a sort. So, I think it's appropriate to compare one against another when you're trying to make decisions on what to buy. That's great that some still really love those figures--I like them, but not enough to have held onto the one Snake I had--but I do think those figures lose their value in my eyes (not monetary value, just value as a collectible) when you now get something that, despite its flaws, will be so superior to them in so many ways.

Don't you think it's possible that the current Hot Toys figures might become dated in 10 years? :huh Just because they're Hot Toys, doesn't mean that they're immune to becoming stagnant in their development. The same unfortunate incidents that befell Medicom could very well happen to Hot Toys, or any other 1/6 company for that matter, if they don't continue to put forth their A-game into every release.

My point is that 1/6 collectibles is an ever evolving hobby. In the near future, we might even start to see synthetic skin molds, and automated PERS technology (or some other cool features) that will make our current collectibles look like turds :monkey1. So, in my opinion, it's better to judge figures from the time of their release, rather than to look back and draw comparisons to older figures, which seems rather unfair.

These two figures look fantastic. I don't see them selling many of the boss @ $215 but I'm glad they are making her. How was medicoms snake figure. What are the differences?

Yeah i think The Boss isn't going to sell as well as if it was $169.99-$189.99

When people say it didn't sell well, at east they can't say it's the customers fault

I think The Boss should have been a little cheaper - priced around Battle Suit Jill Valentine at $189. On the plus side though, she does come with loads of accessories! Just look at that Davy Crockett :horror

Looking from a statue collecting point of view. When a new piece is revealed we don't see any reasons as to why it shouldn't be compared to it's predecessors. The older pieces are the measuring stick in which the newer ones are measured. I'm not sure if getting my point out here.

But if a piece is truly deserving of such high regards, you don't need to make excuses for it. Just my opinion.

Wow, $215! That's it man, Hot Toys has spoken! That's their new price line and with that I'm out. If it's really going to be $200+ (over $250 after tax+shipping) bucks a piece for these toys then it's time to start rethinking my spending budget . I'll get some Avengers figures and see myself out!

I'm not a statue collector, but from the way I see it, statues don't seem to change very much, unlike 1/6 collectibles. Sideshow's still using polystone and the same paint aps as they been doing for several years now.

Same here, I won't quit HT altogether but $215 for these figures is just getting out of control.

Congrats to everyone who loves these. I think Snake looks great, not too sure about the boss though.

^Yup, you guys are right. For me, it's just too unfortunate that I won't be able to get all of the Hot Toys figures that I want. The figures are currently priced out of my budget, but I can still afford a few now and again. Sideshow's flex payment helps a lot too.

I thought I'd be more excited about this, but it all just looks perfunctory to me. The sculpt is nice, but there's nothing particularly special about this release, overall. And boy, do I dislike the sneaking suit design.

Plus, that price. At $215 I will gladly wait for a version that I'd actually want.

I don't disagree with you. And if that happens, we can look back and say that HT were the best at a particular point in time, but are no longer. If HT fails to continue evolving, then I'm sure an Enterbay or some such would be happy to take their place. But as a collector in the high end world (which is different from collecting stuff I had as a child) I want the best. I'm not sentimental for stuff that used to be great 4-5 years ago but no longer cuts the mustard. Your mileage may vary, but I think contemporary collectibles should be able to stand on their own merits in a modern context--meaning you compare them to what is around today.

The Medi figures are quaint by today's standards. Still cool, but I would no longer consider them high end.

I think "perfunctory" is a bit too harsh. For the design of the sneaking suit, they've done a stand-up job, and it looks accurate to the in-game model. But, I understand what you're saying, as the figures are already expensive. We'll most definitely see additional MGS figures next year (hopefully with some Resident Evil figures as well).

Personally, I'm getting everything from this line. I want an army of Snakes! :horror

Well, define "special." I admit that this is precisely what you would expect from a Hot Toys Snake, and no more, but no less, either. . .it's a Hot Toys Snake! The best high end figure version of this character available. To me, that's exciting. Frankly, I'm glad they didn't give him a googly PERS eye, which could have only hurt this figure. I guess he could have come with more accessories or something?

Hell yeah! Did not expect to see that Davy Crockett and Ponch and the cases for the DC.

You know, you're probably right. It does look like the usual quality from Hot Toys. It's just sometimes one gets the feeling that some HT products are done by-the-numbers and as routinely as possible. That may or may not be the case here (the inclusion of the cardboard box shows that some love went into this figure), my distaste for the suit and HT's recent price hikes probably affected my feelings. It's just that, after such a long wait, I was ready to be wowed; floored. This isn't it.

You ever think that just by us collectively using a lil restraint in not purchasing that HT's would say "hey guys I think we have to dial back our price points."
