I don’t actually mind Justin, but his reviews are so formatted and all feel the same after a while. Once you’ve seen him review something his other reviews all feel more or less the same. He’s better on live shows when he’s just chatting.
I don't know, I'm pretty sure he's not actually an organic being, more some kind of toy reviewing artificial intelligence.

Mine charged and shipped on Friday. I was not a day 1 preorder, but I’ve had the preorder long enough that it had one of the older $25 coupons on it. It was a nice change from my Anakin that they billed nearly 3 weeks ago and still hasn’t shipped.

I started using flexpay options on $300+ just to give me slightly more control when final product ships. I was charged for 7 Hot Toys this month, 2 were just released and the other 5 were from months ago. I have another 5 orders that have been released. Three are full pay and can charge at any time, two are on flex pay with short payment terms, and I will know whether or not I get those this month when my scheduled date comes. But it is ultimately a crap solution for bigger issues.

Pre-pandemic was easier because the supply chain ran like clockwork. I used to get every Sideshow order pretty much six weeks after the production photos were up on HT’s Facebook account. It made planning for upcoming releases easy. Now Sideshow might surprise you with immediate charges, and sometimes won’t even ship the product.

The real solution is to just stop pre-ordering Hot Toys that are going to have excess in-stock anyways. Which I have largely done. But I still have another 15+ months of riding out horrible pre-order fulfillment. Which I continue to do mostly out of spite because I am going to get every single last $25 coupon code redeemed.

His reviews are very robotic. That’s why I said very formatted. He kind of says and does the same thing in all of his reviews. It’s just a very odd choice.

I can see having a style, but most other reviewers I watch change up aspects of each review and don’t say the same things essentially verbatim each time.

Wish this guy would talk like a normal human so I wouldn't need to watch his videos on mute.

It is very annoying, especially his openings.

Saying that, Jango looked amazing under the white light just standing there, a great shot of him, around the 12:30 mark.

I know we've had many discussions about this, at least here in the SW section, but you're right. I pre-order when I have coupons now, whenever those $20 coupons hit my account and I know I want something. I got to use them on the Clone Pilot and the B1 Battle Droids earlier this month.

Especially because we know that being a Day 1 pre-order doesn't mean anything, as people who order a few days ago are having their figures shipped before a lot of people.

I don't think the "small batches" thing is a ruse at all. We can see from the threads here that the figures seem to consistently ship once they start arriving. It not weekly or anything, but I'd argue it's still MUCH better doing it this way than how we had it before. I think people are completely forgetting that we used to get Sideshow orders MONTHS later. Now, they start shipping the same time as HK releases in most cases. Albeit in small batches, but it's still better than waiting three months in my opinion.

That said, Sideshow really needs to figure out a way to ship in the order that orders were placed. Some people don't want to rush up there flex pay and that's fine. Send them the email that it's being released and if they want it now, they'll charge it. We used to get those emails. "Items arriving earlier. If you want to pay it off that's cool. If not, that's cool too and we'll continue with your payment schedule" not verbatim 😂 but yeah, totally not cool that I was able to place an order yesterday and get it shipped yesterday while people have had this ordered for years essentially. But it's obviously happened to me on five of my other orders that WERE day one pre order and paid off that still haven't shipped while I watch people who ordered a couple weeks before get theirs. It sucks. Just the freaking Sideshow lottery.

Anddddd this guy is going with Dooku for sure for right now. As more of the Separatists and EpII stuff rolls in, I'll adjust. I've said this before but seriously if you told me I'd be excited for an Episode II display 20 years ago I would've laughed myself into the mystic Force. 😂 But I can't wait now. Just hoping the Jedi are coming!

I like Justin’s reviews too. Even the formatted system I tend to enjoy because I know what to expect and usually get a good, clear look at everything without any fluff. Never understood the dislike of his commentary either. Kinda reminds me of a Casey Kasum style stage voice. 🙂

Yeah I heard him live just chatting and he is a whole better to listen to VS listening to his reviews. He changes his voice for the review and sounds bizarre. Can’t listen to him talking in that exaggerated salesman voice

Yeah, I do kind of get the complaints though. He basically sounds like he’s reading from a script and only changes certain words. Still though the consistency is nice because I at least know what to expect from him.

Yep, definitely sounds like a salesman during his reviews. We all know his affiliations with Toys Wonderland, and while he doesn’t endorse them in the same way Comic Sanctorum since it’s a Toys Wonderland offshoot.

When he does live shows though he seems like a decent enough guy to listen to chat about figures. He also comes off less as a salesman/promoter and will sometimes actually be a little critical.

I am waiting for him to say Domo Arigoto Mr Roboto.

I don’t think he even needs a script at this point. He has said those words so many times how could he forgot them? We all know them :)

One thing about his formula -- one could assume he's a busy guy and hit on what works, and just sticks with it to save time and brain resources for real life. I guess he's like the MCU that way.

Great analogy and makes sense, but he puts on a different voice. I would have thought that takes brain resources! My comparison is Saul Goodman.

Fair; but you do anything enough it just becomes habit. I do remember he used to be more A.M. Radio Announcer before toning it down. I think the whole thing originated from having to enunciate very clearly on whatever equipment he started with, or a stylistic thing, who knows.

His older reviews are a bit different. I think he only started the current style within the last couple years or so.

His early videos have his natural voice, which was a bit too flat to be engaging. He switched over time to sound very exuberant and over the top but I imagine that got exhausting.

Then he went with a full Jeremy Clarkson esque radio presenter voice. Now he’s sort of split the difference and it’s somewhere in the middle. But it’s a deliberate artificial affectation which can be off putting for some people.

I’m still iffy about the not fully disclosing any business ties but his are usually the only videos I can stand to watch. At least I know what his motivations are and the videos are clear and have a set formula.

I’m not a huge fan of video reviews in general because - while I get that it’s work to make videos - it’s become about selling their own brand for some, while sliding in some kickbacks and acting like some kind of wizard or guru to try to influence people and the market.

I always say this, but I’m glad forums like this still exist even in the age of social media because the photos and impressions everyone posts here are invaluable. People collecting, taking photos, and sharing impressions of figures for fun is what it really should be about.

I happen to like the purple flight suit. After watching some scenes, it seems the blue is more accurate though.

Nah man, frustrating as hell to listen to that over the top salesman voice. "Cringe" is the only word that comes to mind.

This is why I prefer Jedha. At least he mixes the format up a bit these days, and adds his own personal views.....in a normal voice.
