Re: Hot Toys-MMS: X-Men 1st Class

The pants look a bit too baggy. The way it cuts inward in the middle makes it look like he's wearing a mini dress. The way the cape drapes down across the front kinda adds to the "sloppy" feel - if the red suit underneath were more form fitting the style of the cape would look better.

I'm not criticizing the "comic" look or the colors, I just really feel that it needs to be better fitted to Fassbender's body so that it looks less awkward. It just looks awkward to me. It kind of looks like he pulled it out of a Halloween costume shop - a cheaper replica of the real and presumably better looking original.

I agree. I think he looks like a ____ing idiot. I hope they go back to the drawing board for the sequel so he looks more menacing.

Re: Hot Toys-MMS: X-Men 1st Class

With all do respect I don't think you actually understand tailoring. It's pretty clear that was tailor fit to Fassbender. The pants are supposed to be baggy, they are "riding pants" like the Nazis and the Rocketeer wear and they tuck into his boots, they were still popular back then. The fact that it "cuts in like a dress" is a clear indication they fit it specifically to Fass. The sleeves are also tailored and were taken in and have cuffs at the bottom. At the tops they could not be any tighter and still allow him to raise up his arms. It's one thing to not like it's look, thats fine, but it isn't poorly tailored or cheap looking at all.

Re: Hot Toys-MMS: X-Men 1st Class

The whole scene felt like a last minute after thought really. I think it's fine if he has a cape, it's just all in how things are handled. Loki looks great with a cape for example.

I agree, he just needs to be a bit more menacing, but there is a fine line with Magneto. He's not really a villain so much as an extremist. He believes he is in the right and doing what has to be done. So I think he needs a certain amount of power and fear to his appearance, but he still needs to appear regal and approachable.

I really don't see how it's cornier then this, talk about a dress.

Re: Hot Toys-MMS: X-Men 1st Class

Loki is an ornate God who is showy, so it suits him.

I think the cape just feels forced to remain true to the comics. Perhaps he gets the cape as he gets older. For now, with Fass, I think he'd look better more streamlined. Maybe a longer coat for the feel of a drape.

That pic of Ian looks silly now.

Maybe I don't. *shrugs* I still think it looks sloppy and awkward and far too lose on his body, no matter the style they were going for.

I agree on the coat - I think a coat with a bit of a "flow" to it, would work very well with this version of Magneto.

Re: Hot Toys-MMS: X-Men 1st Class

Magneto is similar to Loki in how he sees himself, so I think a cape suits him. If they gave him outfit that looked good without a cape though I wouldn't have any problem with that.

Re: Hot Toys-MMS: X-Men 1st Class

While I think a coat would be neat, a cape easily works for me too.

It's just the combination of the whole outfit that doesn't. I think there's room for a lot of improvement without losing the comic style they were going for. That elegance that Magneto has (and Fassbender's Magneto definitely possessed, in just a little bit more of an "edgy" way) is lost with this, IMO.

Re: Hot Toys-MMS: X-Men 1st Class

I don't know, I'm no expert, just going by the movies, but Loki seems more in need of acceptance than Fass' Magneto does -- thus the overcompensation with the grandeur of a cape. Maybe Magneto becomes more like Loki over time, but in the time frame of this movie he just gave up being a no-frills vigilante Nazi-hunter with a single-minded purpose.

Re: Hot Toys-MMS: X-Men 1st Class

Oops, I don't mean in the movies, I mean in the comics, and in regards to the air of royalty and "I am superior" mindset. In First Class we really don't see the Mutant Extremist Magneto yet, you're right, but I think we do see his feeling of superiority.

Re: Hot Toys-MMS: X-Men 1st Class

I wondered if you meant the comics, that's why I specified the movie. I think he's growing into the character that's more familiar in the comics. And yes, that superiority works perfect for the flare of a cape. But I think Fass should maybe ease into it. Grow into it in the sequel. Give the outfit somewhere to go too.

But anyway, too late, he's got the damn cape.

:lol I saw the Mad TV "Xmen First Class" sketch the otherday where they have to kill Kevin Bacon and anyone withing six degrees of him.

He's had the cape since 2000's X-Men, these are still related movies unfortunately. But it's like saying maybe Charles shouldn't go bald, the characters always been bald / always had a cape.

No, I know they're related, I just think they should allow for growth instead of just going from pre-Magneto to his classic character right away in a throw-away moment at the end of the film. General thought, and useless because they already made the determination. Just sayin' IMHO.

I think the transition occured on the beach, he gained the power and understanding to lift a submarine, murdered Shaw, and blocked out Charles with the helmet, began adressing mutants as Brothers and Sisters, tryed to kill thousands of humans, crippled Charles and stole his protege, assembled his own brotherhood. The suit itself is more of a teaser for the sequel like the Joker card at the end of BB.

He's had his revenge and now he will focus fully on his crusade. He had the helmet, he had to make use of it, and that blue and yellow wasn't his costume, it's Charles and the Xmen, he needed something of his own. Take too long getting to what we know we love and want and your George Lucas.
