So you don't cut the rubber suit but instead, you just cut the black elastic strap at the back?
I cut the rubber suit a tiny bit in the front and back of the collar area. Just a little bit, like a quarter inch slice. Then I snipped the elastic.

1/6 Hot Toys MMS242 Captain America: The Winter Soldier Stealth STRIKE Suit - Modification - Video Dailymotion

This is the video I used for reference. I took everything off and removed the fatsuit in one piece like he did to preserve it. In hindsight I might have just hiked the rubber shirt up and cut it off, because getting that shirt back on was a pain in the butt.

When putting him back together, I also cut the heads off two plastic spoons, and padded his chest with them under the rubber suit. The costume holds them in place, and they fill out his chest nicely. Got that idea from someone in this thread.

Hmm interesting, this goes against what the first tutorial said in that you are not meant to cut the black elastic because that holds the suit together.

It sure is, nevertheless, I have done it numerous times.

Do you have a pic? Two things I found hilarious about what the guy said in this video. He says that the problem with the figure is that he is too big and bulky and thus, he needs to reduce this by cutting out the fat suit. Then when he sees the actual body of the figure he goes "look how big and muscular the figure is", I mean how can he think that? The major problem with the figure is that he is too scrawny. I do agree though that the bulk of the torso makes his arms look smaller but the problem is not the bulk but the shape. Anyway man, thanks for uploading the video. :rock

Ok, so, there are a couple of issues at play with the Stealth Strike Suit, and they cause separate problems.

A) The fatsuit which is meant to pad out his torso actually makes his chest look flat and restricts movement of the TrueType's rib joint

B) The rubber shirt and elastic strap work to pull the shoulders together too tightly, restricting movement and giving him that "shrugged" look.

Here's a sketch of the TT body, and the way the shoulders work:
mod01.jpg
The shoulder ball joints are attached to another block inside the chest that allows the entire arm/shoulder to move up and down. With the rubber shirt's elastic strap across the back, the shoulders are pulled closely together, and that means they're pulled up.

If you snip the elastic strap, and slice the collar in the front and back just a little bit, now the shoulders have the freedom to drop down, giving Cap a broader shoulder, more of a neck, and a larger range of movement.

You can handle the fatsuit in a number of ways... you can leave it, if you don't care about the rib joint movement/flat chest look. You can slice off just the part below the rib joint, leaving padding around the pecs but none around the stomach, or you can do what I did and remove it entirely.

The True Type is muscular. The arms inside the Strike Suit are snug and bulky and look good. But the Strike Suit was tailored to fit over the fatsuit, and so if you remove the fatsuit, the overlying strike suit will not fit the body snugly, thus showing off its musculature.

So I cut the heads off two plastic spoons, and shoved them under the tight rubber shirt, thin ends pointed up towards his clavicle/shoulders.

This gives his chest a nice solid and natural protrusion, without limiting the articulation of the rest of the TT body. You could also accomplish this with fabric or clay, or whatever. Someone suggested spoons, and I tried it and thought the curvature of the spoons mimicked the shape of the pecs really well under the suit.

Does that help?

However, I disagree with you about the true type being muscularly, the MOS upper torso and arms is how big the body should be, because with that body both the shoulders and torso shape look better. The body they used is too skinny,
and the shoulders are too flat, there is no shape to them at all. But but thanks for the great explanation, very informative.

Except if you use the MOS body, you lose your articulation. One guy on here did it and he can't even zip the suit back up. Looks good from the front, but it's permanent museum pose.

Yeah I know, I just meant in theoretically it is better, the suit is too small for it but if the suit was big enough that would be the ideal body because it fixes both the shape of the body and the shoulders.

Cupcake- thanks for the sketches and video link. Never would've thought of using the spoons, but it looks great!

cadaver- nice picture! Love seeing figures without the stands getting the way.

I wish I can pose without stands but I'm in CA and little earthquakes knock them down.

It's a lazy day and rainy outside, so I decided to take some pics. :dunno

Awesome pics Sab4279. Ordered this over the weekend with the 30% coupon. Will be my first captain to go with the many IM suits and BW. Been meaning to get a capt and this coupon was a nice incentive. Can't wait.

They look nice Sabrina :clap I love action poses :woo

Thank you, both.

Firefly, congrats on the pickup! Did you get the two pack or just Cap?

He has just as much movement wit the MOS body as he does with the fat suit cut out. I have one of each and they are basically the same Movement wise.
