This looks like a no brainer if I didn?t have the HT TFA R2 standing in for OT R2 (and I really like the weathering on that)... not sure I would use the accessories enough to justify another purchase.
Beautiful figure though and I expect it to be same size as TFA R2

I'm in the same boat, the TFA R2 is pretty awesome. But I like the idea of displaying this with all his accessories.

I don’t own any 1/6 R2 D2 but I do remember seeing both SS and TFA R2’s on display at my local store. I have to admit my eyes leaned towards the SS version more than HT. But the SS R5 D4 …Damn that’s a nice piece!! Sorry I went tangent!! :monkey3

I never got the TFA R2... is it the same size as the Sideshow R2 or is it a little larger?

I never got a chance to compare the size, as I sold my SS R2 before receiving the TFA, but the TFA felt far superior (to me) in almost every way. The diecast dome is lovely.

Oh no.... say it ain't so.

That makes me feel a little better.

Its going to be punishing to have to wait the 8 weeks to get this in hand now.

I owned the SSC, Tama and HT (TFA) at one time or another.

HT?s if I recall was like most R2s ? slightly under-scaled ? but I found the HT and its metal dome far superior.

My favourite proportions were on the Tama R2, but I just couldn?t get past the finish on the plastic dome.

I?m getting this one as my sole R2.

Well, at least this one has (I think) everything that ever popped out of R2 in the OT and then some. Coupled with the metal dome, I don't see needing another R2 in the foreseeable future.

Now where the heck is that HT 3PO?

Strange that HT started with what was once thought as the most difficult figure -- Chewbacca -- but in 5 years hasn't been able to muster what they excel at (a robot) -- 3PO!

I think the Hot Toys TFA version was a bit weak just for the fact that it was bare bones. Sideshow?s was a better value for the time, but I think this new Hot Toys version looks better.

HT is slightly taller, heavier, and girthier. All-around win. White looks better on the new one, the TFA one has the slightest bit of a yellow hue. Broke down and ordered from AE.

I'm guessing HT are using the same mold as the TFA version...which looked much the same in scale as the Tamashii version and a tad bigger than SS...

Tosche Station Collectors Group did a great in-depth comparison a few years back...

The HT was the best of those previous three, but the weathering was still far too heavy for my taste (even beyond what was seen in TFA), so I'm really glad they've made a new one.

Still not sure about how they've done the lights though. It looks like you can either have all the lights on, or just the main red/blue one, which is odd. Unless the below pic is just photoshop? Guess we'll have to wait for the reviews to know for sure.

Damn, did not realize how much bigger the Hot Toys version of R2 is in comparison to the Sideshow version.
