One of the few SE changes that was a welcome change. Unlike the blinking Ewoks or the Han Jabba scene in ANH (especially the first pass). Seriously just give that one up.

Or Greedo shots first ... which is looking horrible too, aside from everything else.

He actually did!

One of the few SE changes that was a welcome change.

If it were replaced like the one posted above, I'd agree, but the execution in the actual movie is piss poor, his hood looks all a mess for no reason other than probably a choice to make the cover up easier.

Sculpt may look better with the hood properly draped. Probably still not buying it though.

For those interested, check out the storyboard concepts for the emporer, it would make it a little easier to see why the 1980 emporer is quite bizarre. Originally he was going to be something like a 10 foot tall demon.

As far as mcdiarmid in 1983 w/makeup, I've only found 1 photo with his hood off and that was in black and white. Personnally, I prefer the 1980 emporer in ESB with Revill voice. Having mcdiarmid redo that scene with altered dialogue doesn't really hurt ESB, I just don't think it added much either.

I am huge Emperor fan and I think that this figure looks great! Must stink to be everyone else on this thread...glad I can look forward to a Hot Toys Emperor...guess it's all in the eye of the beholder.

Adding McDiarmid in ESB special edition was done for consistency purpose. Could you post that black and white picture with the hood off?

Actually it was not a guy. It was Marjorie Eaton who played the physical body of the Emperor and Clive Revill who did the voice.

The Emperor also wears a blue robe in ESB, not a charcoal/black robe he wears in ROTJ. It's not just the hologram effect that makes it appear blue. They show it in one of the books (making of ESB or costumes book - can't remember.)

The ESB Emperor has a more otherworldly, creepy and almost non-human vibe than the ROTJ variation (where he's really more clearly just a crazy, leering old man with a few witchy powers) but I love both versions for different reasons.

How they came up with a combo of a woman with Chimp eyes superimposed I have no idea, but the ROTJ Emperor in the theatrical versions had weirdly rotoscoped eyes too (because of reflected light on the makeup or something,) so the two Emperors sorta-kinda matched even back in the day.

I was really hoping to have an HT Emperor flanked by Vader and some Royal Guards...I really hope they work on the sculpt!

Good for you. *pats on head*

Still like the adywan version best

Lips aren't perfect, but then, neither is the rush job they call makeup for the emperor in those SE and EP III scenes.

Yes this was my plan too. I just posted on their FB page something to this affect under their new “we pay so much attention to headsculpts” photo. Seemed appropriate I thought.

I can easily see Ian McDiarmid in that sculpt, but you're right in that it's a mishmash of ROTS and ROTJ Palpatine.

The Emperor from the OT is not Sidious from the PT.
Yes he is. He's the same person, and canonically, had a lightsaber on him at all times.

A mishmash of ROTS and ROTJ Palpatine, Ed Harris and Hugh Hefner. But 50% of that list is Ian McDiarmid .

There's a tubular bulge visible in his lower cloaks in ROTJ. It is possible that was his saber, or at least Leland Chee interpreted it as such.:dunno

Is that a lightsaber in our cloak, or are you just happy to see me? :lol
