Curious, on average how many of each figure are produced? Do we know this number?

No, that's why it's all speculation about what figure is popular and what isn't, or what will go to waitlist and what won't. TFA stormtroopers clearly look as though they didn't sell well compared with the Rogue One troopers, but they might have made 20K vs 10K for all we know. It would be great if they released edition sizes, but they probably want to curb that type of speculation.

That rifle is the #1 accessory with this figure.
For me..it's completely un-useable because it's IG-88's rifle. We can't have chaos and have the Han Solo's of the world using other weapons like Chewie's bowcaster. ..oh wait, that happened??

I imagine the days of edition sizes of 20,000 1/6 figures ended when prices soared past $150. Maybe that size was the assumption for TFA and that's why so many are still available.

From what I've ascertained, it seems that a company needs to make 300-500 at least just to be worthwhile (like say Asmus). In today's price range, most runs on figures are likely between 500 - 3,500 units depending... and then of course there's the super franchises -- which is basically Marvel and Star Wars -- which can generate maybe 5,000 or more units. But you see Sideshow SW figures like 4-LOM and Zuckuss getting 2,000 units. That's a good barometer. And they will likely be available for a long time too.

I mean, how many Yoda's at $200 do you think HT actually produced?

Yeah, I was sort of just throwing those numbers out, but meant for the whole lot of those TFA troopers.

4-LOM actually sold out already. But knowing Sideshow and what they did with the e-web, I'm not convinced they necessarily did all 2,000 already.

Well if 4-LOM is truly sold out then it proves SS finally found its sweet spot. 2,000 units for 3rd tier Star Wars characters.

So that gives you a barometer to work from.

If 2,000 4-LOMs can sell for $200... then maybe 10,000-15,000 Jedi Lukes can sell. I'd be more conservative in most other cases, since Jedi Luke is likely one of the few -- like Vader -- that everyone wants. A more average figure, like the third iteration of Han might garner 7,500 units. Tarkin, as much as we all want him, probably will actually only sell out quickly at, what... 2,000-3,000? For most, he's not that far off from 4-LOM ... and the later has the distinction of being at least a robot.

Yeah, clearly they know army builders people will buy more of so those would get bigger runs. Sideshow's Snowtrooper had a 5,000 edition size and that was already at that $150 mark so you'd have to figure most of the main troops are still around that number at least.

What's hard to wrap your head around is how much did Hot Toys consider all those basic TFA Stormtrooper variants to be truly different figures. There were 7 of them if you count Finn, and inexplicably he seemed to have been produced in the fewest numbers. Imagine if they thought they could move 35,000 of them or whatever 7 times the normal run is. :lol

Yeah, that's where it can back-fire fast. Even the repetitiveness of the troopers can cannibalize their sales. They may have done 5,000 x 7 troopers when they should have done 2,000 x7. The only one they got right was that first ANH Stormtrooper which sold out fast. Nothing like it since. But that is THE classic stormtrooper -- everyone wanted that -- even non-collectors might have picked one up for their desk at the office.

Hah. Yeah huh. At first glance I thought it was the original style rifle that came with the Kenner snowtroopers.

2nd batch...?

Part 2 of their order with Sideshow? They seem to go waitlist so quick now maybe they are ordering far fewer and then re-ordering once stock is shipped.

I just ordered the 2 pack right now from BBTS... $369.99 for two figures with no tax and flat $4 shipping is awesome. I planned on not getting these guys but all of your pics are just too cool.

They still have the single ESB one available too but the BF one sold out. Surprised Jedi Luke is already sold out for pre-order through them.

I told myself I only needed 2 but just ordered Another one locally, should arrive in october in time for my birthday. :yes

I got in on the two pack too this week. Guess they had a couple returns or cancels. Very pleased. Love BbTs.

After speaking with a large 1/6 figure shop owner he says its more pre-order based these days. HT wont make 10,000 of a figure and hope for the best. They will only make whats ordered, and those figures come from preorders plus what individual shop owners want as extra stock based on their own judgement.

Sure HT probably has a minimum number per figure to break even or to make it worthwhile. This then dictates how long the preorder has to stay open. But thats the way for them to play it safe and avoid sitting on unsold stock.

Hence all the more reason to pre-order these days unfortunately.

I guess in the case of the Snowtrooper, it’s projected money made so huge success! I wonder if the thought of potential money lost is a consideration. Or the cost of a second batch would be a loss!!
