Exactly. Though if HT will consider Rogue One, seems the Stormtroopers from it are a bit different from ANH - thus maybe even better for HT to release a "new" Stormie, RO version...

Awesome! Rogue One sounds like a whole squadron of pilots. After Zahn's trilogy, Stackpole was the only one I really followed. I grew up on his Battletech stories as well. He was good with his sci-fi military stuff, as good as Heinlein. Rogue Squadron, from comics, the books and the videogame were all pretty cool. I haven't been following Rogue One, is that what it's about?

Nope. It's about the rebels who stole the plans to the first Death Star. It's Ocean's Eleven with stormtroopers, Donnie Yen and Hannibal Lector.

This is such a terrible idea for a Star Wars movie. It's like fan fiction. And we know how it ends. Next thing you know they'll make a movie about Darth Vader as a little kid. Maybe he'll create C3PO and fight with child Greedo.

Haha, I don't think it's anywhere near that bad. I'd rather they not do any anthology or spin off films, but if they're going to do them, having one set in ANH era and be about Rebels vs Stormtroopers is alright by me. I like the idea much more than Han and/or Boba Fett getting their own films.

I totally love the idea of more movies set in the New Hope time period, with rebels vs. the empire, but the main plot of this movie is stupid.
How about a whole new group of characters - rebels and rogues and outcasts who team up to fight a new threat by the Empire. I'm sure Vader had many missions and things to do during that time period.
What's STUPID is this: the big victory at the end of this movie will be the heroes capturing the PLANS to the death star. Not BLOWING UP the Death Star. And capturing the PLANS is no big slam dunk because there's a LOT more to do before you can actually put them to use!!!
Imagine a movie like Zero Dark Thirty where the climax is getting a LEAD on Bin Laden but not actually capturing/killing/putting a stop to him. DUMB.

Is that the plot of the film? I really haven't been following it much at this point. I agree that Vader would/should have had many missions during this period and any could have been fun. I do think they really need to let the whole Death Star thing go, I mean Jesus, the new film is even rehashing that idea.

I do agree with this too, even if they are rehashing the Death Star thing, if the film is mostly Rebels fighting it out with Stormtroopers and a little Vader thrown in? I can't complain too much.
Unless it sucks, of course, lol.

Wouldn't it be more interesting to see what happens right AFTER the Death Star explodes? The really pissed off Empire hunting down a new group of Rebels, with some big NEW threat happening?

I was being a little facetious when I compared it to Oceans Eleven. They've put together a great and talented cast. This could easily be Star Wars Band of Brothers. There are lots of great movies about the hidden story behind major events we all know the end too. If the script is right, this could be a fantastic film.

It could easily end with a big battle that has the rebels coming out victorious. The opening crawl for Star Wars says that the rebels have won their first victory and during that battle (which they apparently won) they stumbled upon the plans for the Death Star.

Besides, maybe we'll get to see some Bothans and it'll be a total mystery which ones, if any, will make it out alive.
