HT is slow on this figure, but I believe they will show something soon. If not at SDCC, then at one of the Asian Toy Fairs.

They'll show. Just don't expect no more than 2 Fig's at most. Hopefully we'll see something at SDCC like gunm said. Can't wait to see the SDCC Pic's, wish I was going :( talking about over due figures, hopefully HT will show some Avatar figures there as well & some of you guys thought your had a long wait for these SP figures ;)

Gosh, people are so impatient, they only announced this in December. It's not like they're going to pay the thousands of dollars in licensing costs, then say "Hmm, y'know what?? Let's just not make the figures. Let's just throw all that money in the toilet."

Avatar says hi. :monkey1

But seriously, Captain America was announced at the same time and we are getting a spectacular-looking prototype available for preorder tomorrow and the movie isn't even out yet. Sucker Punch came and went with mixed reviews and a relatively poor box office showing. You can imagine people who want these figures are concerned.

Depends on how long they take to make them. Licenses only last for a few years. Normal terms are 2 to 3 years max, and once it expires, you also forfeit your up front money and if you want to renew, you will need to pay again. So if HT keeps delaying the release / production, doubt that they will sink more money on an already cool down property.

And honestly, I am not sure how well the 2 figures will be received, knowing that you will only get two and not the other 3 girls at all. Kinda beats the purpose.... I do wish they would have put out all 5 girls. They are a team, and should be displayed so. :(

And what happens if the delays aren't HT's fault??

I have a sneaking suspicion Avatar is being held up because James Cameron (or whoever is in charge of approvals) is being a jerk. Everything Avatar out so far has been maquettes and statues (for high-end), $10 says Hot Toys gave them a sweet articulated prototype and the licensing dept. said "Ewww, that articulation is ugly, make it a statue" and Hot Toys says "But, we're not a statue company" and they've been arguing back and forth ever since.

We know Hot Toys can deliver a kick-ass prototype, they've shown that time and time again, there's absolutely no evidence that they're having trouble producing this prototype. I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts, it's being held up by licensing. Whether WB has moved on and is dragging their feet giving HT the go ahead, or Zack Snyder is too busy making Superman to approve Baby Doll. . . who knows, I'm just saying I find it hard to believe Hot Toys is the party responsible for the delay.

I am not saying HT is responsible for the delay. However, if the licensor is gonna take forever to pick on the prototype, there is nothing a licensee can do and by the time the contract term is up, licensee can only choose to renew with a new term and new fees, or give up. That is the sad truth about the licensing biz.

Regarding Avatar, Mattel made loads of articulated action figures. :)

None of us can be sure of what is happening between HT and their licensors. We can only sit and hope that those figures we want will show up one day....

True, but I'd wager Mattel has much more weight with a licensor than Hot Toys. The Mattel deal was probably worth a few million to the studio in fees and royalties, the 'high-end' stuff like maquettes and such, considering the limited nature is a few hundred-thousand to the licensor, and that's being generous.

And I'm sure the licensor understands that Mattel is mass-market, and it has a different set of guidelines, mass-market lives and dies by getting the toys out in time for the marketing and publicity. The licensor giving Mattel a hard time is delaying a few million in the bank. The licensor delaying Hot Toys is delaying about 20k, chump change.

On top of that, if you're a licensing guy for a film studio, you don't jerk around Mattel. . . or Hasbro for that matter. You're not going to jerk around the biggest action figure companies in the world.

you don't know hot toys very well do you?

they've YET to complete a line. they kinda cherry-pick their releases.

I don't think comparing the wait for HT Sucker Punch and other movies is fair
Avatar HT may be taking forever
but there is quite a few Avatar collectibles
theres almost nothing from SP
