I don't count the books as canon or the games, I only count films as canon, so to me he's barely even character. And also his facade isn't really ruined by this series because there wasn't much to him as previously stated.
Then again, I don't really consider Darth Vader from the OT to be menacing at all, he was a little bish to Moff Tarkin and didn't have much imposing scenes. Even as a kid I didn't find him scary. It wasn't until Rogue One that showed his true power and nature, but even then I feel that's only so in retrospect to the myriad of portrayals outside the films has portrayed him as. By film alone it didn't really do well to distinguish what most people now regard him as.
Back to Boba, my brother has loved him since we were kids. I never got it, because he's such a tertiary character it's unreal. But I do understand why people might not like the series based on this, and regardless of external characterizations. As even in the film Vader has to remind him not to disintegrate, and he never takes his helmet off etc. and he is is now touting respect and taking his helmet off a lot.
To be honest Mandalorian serves as the better representation of Boba.
