Ht's are "The Main Event" in my man cave. I have five Detolf cases in a row that is propped up 24 inch off the ground. I keep one figure per shelf. These are expensive figures and I want to show that off. I'm sorry but having four plus figures on a shelf makes the look cheap and affordable (I know you need the room to do it).
Having said that and moving forward I have a very strict list of what future release will go in there: DX T-800, Returns Penguin, Sideshow Vader, DX Rocky (one fine day) and maybe Returns Batman. Problem is how much will Returns Penguin go for when available......if it turns out to be $250-$260 then it is getting ridiculous!!!

I think EVILFACe summed it up best.

HT won't go out of business but they'll be pushing away sales but overpricing figures

But doesn't pushing away sales lead to going out of buisness?:dunno Eventually there will be less and less people willing to purchase their figures.

Can I ask how you were able to prop them up two feet?

Yeah, but i think they'll always have people willing to buy another Iron Man or Joker no matter if it ends up being $300 with no accessories.

It's the non-blockbusting licenses that'll suffer with less and less sales as HT will price them the same as the blockbuster ones and they just won't find enough customers as they aren't as popular.

I built a base long enough for five display cases. The structure is basic 2 x 4 wood. I covered it with black fabric. I have attached two old pictures. One showing four display cases the other five (more recent).
I see my display like a “bonsai tree”. I keep changing (clipping) it as I see fit.

Not necessarily. 100 buyers at $100 a figure brings the same revenue as 50 buyers at $200 a figure. If the prices are higher, fewer buyers does not necessarily mean less revenue or less profit. They're looking for the price-point on the graph where supply and demand intersect. Basic economics.

They may be raising the prices to correct for higher-than-anticipated demand. If their figures were released at $150, and were going for $250 in the aftermarket ... demand dictated a higher price, and resellers were taking profit that could've been theirs. They may be overcorrecting. They may not. Time will tell.

Question is how many customers are really paying those prices and why?

I'd say those that do, do so becuase it's rare and has taken time to build up to that price.

HT pricing them that high right at the beginning is gonna turn the majority away as there are likely more not paying those big aftermarket prices than those who do. Which would translate to more not paying HT's inflated RRP than those who would pay a more reasonable price.

I don't think most people buy because of rarity. They take the best price they can get on something they want. Rarity dictated the price, not the demand. Some people will be priced-out of the market ... but, clearly HT thinks they can make-up for those that are priced-out by taking more revenue-per-sale. Might be right. Clearly the demand is still there in a lot of cases.

You make an excellent point SnakeDoc about revenue being the same with 100 buyers at $100 a figure brings the same revenue as 50 buyers at $200.

But with this there's will be less customers, so one wonders how less customers would affect sales of each figure/license and affect revenue.

If anything, Ikea should thank Hot Toys for the huge amount of Detolf sales...
:lol

Well said! By now, Ikea should have a series of detolfs planned that are 100% exact on dimensions to HT figures with built in HT figure holders with customizable namplate system included.

they are crazy if they don't.

I wonder if the person who designed the Detolf knows how important it's become in the sixth scale world :)
